Chilliwack Sunflower Festival 2019

What: Stroll through more than five acres of sunflowers in bloom. On-leash pets will also be welcome, with a dedicated drinking area and complimentary pick-up bags on-site. Attractions include 20-acres filled with giant sunflowers, a one-acre show garden with 15 varieties of sunflowers, photo-ops with swing sets, lawn games, local food trucks and more.

Richmond Sunflower Festival 2019

What: The first-ever Richmond Sunflower Festival will feature 20 different varieties of sunflowers and dahlias on over eight acres of land for you to enjoy, with multiple #instaworthy moments. Take a train ride through the vineyard and enjoy a tractor ride to the sunflower fields. You can also enjoy a cool drink or ice cream at the vendors at the festival, including a meal on weekends at the festival’s food trucks.

6th Annual Butterfly Release at Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery

What: The 6th Annual Butterfly Release & Fundraiser is happening at the Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery in Langley. The annual fundraiser brings in hundreds of guests every year who join the celebration at the beautiful gardens onsite. On the day of the event, Painted Lady Butterflies will take flight for the very first time, in an eclectic display of colour. SeaWheeze Half Marathon and Sunset Festival

What: Over 10,000 runners descend on Vancouver to sweat it out over a weekend of yoga, running, and an awesome party. Take part in yoga and meditation on Friday, and the Half Marathon and Sunset Festival on Saturday. This year, multi-Grammy award-nominated DJ Kaskade will be the headliner. He’ll be joined by dance and electronic artist Big Wild. In addition to live music, festival-goers will have the chance to participate in an all-level sunset yoga practice, visit the local artisan market, and enjoy food and drinks from local purveyors.

Honda Celebration of Light fireworks 2019

What: The sky over Vancouver’s English Bay will once again be lit up with fireworks for three nights this summer, as the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition returns to the city. Now in its 29th year, the Honda Celebration of Light features India on July 27, Canada on July 31, and Croatia on August 3.

Back again for all three days, the Park Stage at Second Beach is a free, family-friendly festival site featuring live music, food trucks, sponsor activations, and a site-wide liquor license. The event also welcomes back the Red Bull Air Show, a spectacular pre-show performance happening over all three festival nights. Returning this year, radio partner Z95.3 will be presenting Z-Fest on The Keg Lounge stage overlooking English Bay for three nights of music programming before the pyrotechnic displays.

A.W.E.V.A.N.A.I.R above the Vancouver Art Gallery

What: A 65-foot hot air balloon is scheduled to take flight above the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) for the 2019 Honda Celebration of Light. The massive balloon, belonging to Hendrick’s Gin, is called the A.W.E.V.A.N.A.I.R, which stands for Amazing, Whimsical, Enchanting, Voyaging, Astounding, Nocturnal, Ascending, Interstellar, Roamer.

Lucky passengers will have a chance to ride the hot air balloon in groups of four, although they’ll have to win a “golden ticket” in order to ride. In order to win a golden ticket, contestants must have their name pulled in a ballot. Draws will be held at a number of participating bars around Vancouver, as well as onsite at the Hendrick’s Gin Air Departure Lounge from August 2 to 3. Eager riders can also enter via an online ballot.

Entrants must be residents of British Columbia and of legal drinking age to win and ride. No purchase is necessary.

What: Run through the streets of Mount Pleasant and see some amazing public art at the MEC x VMF Run the Murals event. This run, in collaboration with the Fraser Street Run Club, will include a 2 km and 5 km route where you’ll be able to bask in the colourful creations of local artists. Once you’ve caught your breath, head over to the VMF Gallery for some post-run snacks and drinks. Space is limited so register quickly.

AIBC Summer Architectural Walking Tours

What: Through its summer Walking Tour Program, the Architectural Institute of B.C. offers stunning architectural perspectives of six Vancouver neighbourhoods. What: The Waste to Wonder exhibit consists of five life-size sculptures of Canadian at-risk wildlife — the narwhal, orca, bison, grizzly, and caribou — each of them made from upcycled flip flops. More than 6,500 flip flops in total were used to make the sculptures, requiring more than 2,500 hours of work by more than two dozen artists. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a selfie station with an iconic Canadian beaver sculpture, artist demo / meet & greet, upcycle bracelet workshops, upcycle Kiehl’s workshop, plastics recycling drives, contest giveaways, and more.

During the exhibit, each sculpture will be available for purchase through an online auction, starting at a minimum bid of $5,000. All proceeds will be donated to Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Vancouver Mural Festival Mount Pleasant Street Party

Definitely Dali Exhibition

What: Chali-Rosso Art Gallery’s annual Definitely Dali exhibition is back for the summer. Enjoy original artwork by the great Spanish Surrealist master, every single day until the end of September. Plus visit the monumental Salvador Dali sculptures they have positioned in the two public, outdoor spaces: Dalinian Dancer at the corner of Alberni and Thurlow St., and Space Venus at LOT 19, at the foot of Hornby St. 2 W. Bard on the Beach

What: Bard on the Beach is one of Canada’s largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare festivals. Presented in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the festival offers Shakespeare’s plays, related dramas, and several special events on the BMO Mainstage and the Howard Family Stage through September. The lineup this year includes The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare in Love, All’s Well That Ends Well, and Coriolanus.

Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time

What: This unique exhibition is focused on the art of Alberto Giacometti, renowned in the twentieth century for his sculpture, painting, drawing and design. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to examine the breadth of his practice and to see Giacometti’s place among his contemporaries in Paris and London in the post-war period.

In addition to Giacometti, featured artists include Francis Bacon, César, Lynn Chadwick, Jean Dubuffet, Jean Fautrier, Elisabeth Frink, Henri Michaux, Eduardo Paolozzi, Isabel Rawsthorne, Man Ray, Germaine Richier, Jean-Paul Riopelle and William Turnbull, among others.

What: Juno Award-winning, multi-platinum group, Walk Off the Earth, is coming to Vancouver during their world tour. Their five-people-playing-one-guitar interpretation of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” exploded on YouTube, garnering more than 180 million views. Mumford and Sons

What: British band Mumford and Sons are coming to Vancouver in August. The band is set to take the stage at BC Place on August 7, and the show will feature special guests, Portugal.The Man.

Marking 10 years since Mumford & Sons made their debut, the new music follows 2015’s Wilder Mind, which debuted at No. 1 in the US, UK, Australia Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway and, most recently, 2016’s collaborative Johannesburg mini album. Previous LPs include 2012’s Babel, which was awarded the 2013 Grammy for Album of the Year, and their 2009 debut, Sigh No More.

What: BC’s own Carly Rae Jepsen has announced a new Canadian tour for this summer, which she will kick off by playing two back-to-back shows in Vancouver. Jepsen’s latest tour announcement comes on the heels of the release of Jepsen’s fourth album Dedicated, which includes the singles “Party For One,” “Now That I Found You,” “Julien,” and “Too Much.” Jepsen is best known for her hit “Call Me Maybe,” which climbed to #1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries, has sold over 20 million singles worldwide and is certified Diamond in the United States.
