Honda Celebration of Light 2019 participating countries announced

Apr 9 2019, 11:06 pm

The sky over Vancouver’s English Bay will once again be lit up with fireworks for three nights this summer, as the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition returns to the city.

Organizers announced this morning that the participating countries this year will be India on July 27, Canada on July 31, and Croatia on August 3.

Now in its 29th year, the Honda Celebration of Light “is a wonderful opportunity for families and communities to come together to enjoy three nights under the stars celebrating community and culture,” said Yuri Fulmer and Michael McKnight, co-chairs of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society.

This year also marks the first time that India and Croatia will perform in what has now become BC’s largest public event and the world’s longest running offshore fireworks competition.

“We are happy to help spark friendly competition at such an inclusive, family-oriented event,” said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior VP of Honda Canada Inc.

He noted that Honda will be cheering on “all the teams” throughout the course of the competition.

“Each and every year the Honda Celebration of Light brings so much joy and
excitement to Vancouver, and there is no question that this year will be any different,” said Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart. “With an incredible lineup of participating countries and a host of wonderful activities for the public to enjoy, the fireworks will once again be a highlight for our city this summer.”

At 10 pm each night, rain or shine, fireworks begin from barges located in
English Bay, while up to 400,000 spectators witness the show from along the shores.

Music simulcast can be heard on The Breeze 104.3 FM and through the festival’s mobile app, which will be released in early summer.

The winning team will be announced on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

Park Stage returns

Back again for all three days, the Park Stage at Second Beach is a free, family-friendly
festival site featuring live music, food trucks, sponsor activations, and a site-wide liquor
license.

The event also welcomes back the Red Bull Air Show, a spectacular pre-show
performance happening over all three festival nights.

Returning this year, radio partner Z95.3 will be presenting Z-Fest on The Keg Lounge stage overlooking English Bay for three nights of music programming before the pyrotechnic displays.

Taking the stage this summer are:

  • July 27 – Vidya Vox, Khanvict and special guests TBA
