Here are all the FREE movies you can watch at Vancouver Civic Theatre's Sunset Cinema

Now that summer is officially here, Vancouver Civic Theatre’s Sunset Cinema has returned, along with a variety of free, family-friendly events held at the plaza throughout the season.

All movie lovers are invited to the free outdoor movie series at Å”xŹ·Ę›Ģ“exən Xwtlā€™a7shn (formerly QET Plaza) outside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre between July 17 and August 21.

Bring along your blankets, chairs, and pillows, and they’ll provide the hit movies! On Wednesday nights throughout the summer, head over to the outdoor plaza at 630 Hamilton Street with your family, friends, and your four-legged pals for a fun night out under the stars.

Movies will begin at dusk (weather permitting), but make sure you arrive early to save your spot. It’s guaranteed to get busy as the weather gets warmer!

Here is the full line-up of movies that will be shown:

  • July 17 ā€” Crazy Rich Asians
  • July 24 ā€” Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
  • July 31 ā€” Dumbo (2019)
  • August 7 ā€” Captain Marvel
  • August 14 ā€” Mary Poppins Returns
  • August 21 ā€” Aladdin

Mondays: Summer Dance Series

In partnership with DanZa productions, get an introduction to a variety of Urban and Afro-Caribbean inspired dance styles and rhythms. These free beginner-friendly classes cater to multiple fitness levels and abilities and will let you escape the confines of your office and experience an exciting outdoor class ā€” just in time for happy hour!

The schedule is as follows:

  • July 8 ā€“ Caribbean Rhythms with Tereza
  • July 15 ā€” Dance Build up with Lennora
  • July 22 ā€” Reggaeton with Celina
  • July 29 ā€” Belly Dance with Marisol
  • August 12 ā€” Urban Swag with Andrew
  • August 19 ā€” Urban Dance Fit with Kristina

Thursdays: Downtown Farmers Market

Every Thursday from June 6 till October 3 from 3 pm to 7 pm, shop fresh at the Farmers Market atĀ Å”xŹ·Ę›Ģ“exən Xwtlā€™a7shn (formerly the QET Plaza). Brought to you by Vancouver Farmers Market and the Vancouver Civic Theatres, it’ll be your weekly source for the finest and freshest produce!

New vendors to look out for this season include Charnwood Farms, Farm Phi, Grown Here Farms, Mt. Lehman Cheese, Vancouver Bagel Co. and many more.

Fridays: Hustle Dance Drop-in Classes

During the 4-week series every Friday from 6 pm till 7 pm from July 5 till 26 on Å”xŹ·Ę›Ģ“exən Xwtlā€™a7shn (formerly the QET Plaza), you can learn the foundations in connection, musicality, technique, form, free-styling, and more from teachers from Hustle at RS. And the best thing is that you don’t have to be an expert, beginners are welcome! Minimum age of participation is 13 years old.
