Calgary’s new restaurant is going to have you on cloud nine — no really, Major Tom is located 40 floors above street level. The highly anticipated concept is located on the 40th floor of Stephen Avenue Place (700 2 Street SW) and it’s officially open.

A new rooftop bar is open in Calgary, and it looks epic. The Rooftop is brought to us by the Ceili’s Downtown team. Sprung Structures constructed the massive tent that’s now home to The Rooftop on top of Calgary’s 5th Avenue TD Canada Trust building.

Calgary’s new North Carolina-style BBQ restaurant and brewery is now open: South Block Barbecue & Brewing. You’ll find South Block open in Calgary’s Mission district at 2437 4the Street SW.

Fonda Fora

Tamal de Cochinita Pibil (Elle McLean/Daily Hive)

Fonda Fora is located inside The Westley Hotel, near Eau Claire in downtown Calgary. The eatery will cater to guests of the hotel and locals alike, and Chef Rafael Castillo has created a menu that pays homage to his hometown in Yucatan, Mexico, in addition to flavours from around the world.

Saucy Burger

New handheld destination Saucy Burger has taken over a prominent location on Calgary’s 17th Ave. This concept is now operating out of the former address of Nellie’s Cosmic Cafe at 1001 17th Ave SW. Nellie’s closed last spring after 20 years of business.

Local event venue The Pioneer has announced the ice cream shop as a summer pop-up on Stephen Avenue. Lanny Boy’s comes complete with a dog-friendly patio, intended to bring life to the historic downtown street in a fun new way.

The Halal Guys

The Halal Guys is opening its first Calgary location soon, and that means folks in YYC will finally get a taste of the iconic brand’s delicious eats. The food cart turned fast-food chain originated in NYC in the ’90s and has since amassed a cult-like following. Its menu is popular for sandwiches and platters packed with chicken and/or gyro.
