This September, Mumbai-born chef Tushar Tondvalkar is opening his first restaurant, Kavita, in Mount Pleasant. Here, he will be bringing together the depth of regional Indian cuisine with B.C.’s seasonal ingredients.

Kavita’s à la carte menu will draw inspiration from India’s festival calendar, featuring dishes that reflect the country’s unique cultural traditions and celebratory foods. As the seasons shift and festivals like Holi, Diwali, Onam, and Eid approach, the menu evolves to highlight regional ingredients and specialties.

Examples of some of these menu items include the Bun and Butter (Manglorean banana buns and toasted coconut chili butter), Chicken Kebab Stuffed Morels (with korma sauce and green peas), and Puran Poli (milk cake, feuilletine, ghee, and chili crisp).

Called Gigi’s, the new restaurant will be serving up bold Mediterranean flavours alongside a sophisticated energy.

The team behind Dolce Amore is gearing up to open a new three-in-one concept with the help of renowned Vancouver chef Pino Posteraro (Cioppino’s) as the culinary director.

Currently, its indoor/outdoor gelato patio and pickup window, called The Gelato Mafia (TGM Terrazza), is open, but coming later this summer, you’ll be able to enjoy a 25-seat modern Italian cafeteria called Dolce Amore Bar and Caffetteria, and the crowning jewel of this location: Il Cappello Enoteca.

Il Cappello Enoteca will be the team’s first full-service restaurant, featuring a menu rooted in traditional Italian cooking. However, the founders want people to know this isn’t just another pizza and pasta joint.

Here, there will be an emphasis on Tuscan cuisine, as well as regional dishes from across Italy, including a variety of antipasti, risotto, piatti principali, and, of course, gelato desserts (but don’t worry, pizza and pasta will also be on the menu).

This 2,000 sq. ft. space will feature 100 seats in an intimate dining room, as well as an enclosed year-round patio.

The Pokey Okey Group (behind the poke restaurant of the same name) confirmed to Dished that it is gearing up to open a vibrant new food hall in Richmond.

For starters, Pokey Okey will be making its return to Richmond after having closed its original Richmond location in early 2025.

“Fans of the original will rejoice as this revival brings back the same signature flavours and hard-working team that made it a local favourite before its closure earlier this year,” said a representative from the Pokey Okey Group.

But for folks looking for something new, they’re also in luck. A new fast-casual Japanese eatery, specializing in gyudon, called Oishinoya, will be opening alongside a whimsical Japanese cafe called Nonbiri.
