The restaurant industry can be fickle, and unfortunately, spring was a particularly big season for restaurant closures.
From longstanding family-run spots to Michelin-recommended concepts, we saw many restaurants in and around Vancouver close their doors this season.
Here’s your list of the saddest restaurant closures that happened this spring.
Archer

Archer opened in 2022 with a selection of modern bites like sablefish with herb spätzle and seared five-spice duck, all served in a swanky 2,400-square-foot space.
Situated at 1152 Alberni St., Archer was located in a busy downtown district dotted with luxury shops and high-end restaurants. The restaurant’s contemporary North American fare earned it a spot on Michelin’s prestigious recommended list in 2023.

La Taqueria West Hastings

After breaking the sad news in January 2024, La Taqueria said that the final day for its original Pinche Taco Shop location at 322 West Hastings St. was Sunday, May 18, 2025.
La Taqueria also added that the reason for the closure is due to the building redevelopment plan announced in early 2024.
First opening at 322 W Hastings St. in 2009, La Taqueria has now grown to offer its signature Mexican eats and drinks at several brick-and-mortar locations, including spots in Brentwood, Mount Pleasant, and North Vancouver.

Zefferelli’s Spaghetti Joint

Zefferelli’s Spaghetti Joint told Dished that it closed its doors after the May long weekend.
“In 1989, I could not have imagined writing this goodbye letter,” wrote Alberto Lemmo, owner of Zefferelli’s.
“There are precious few independently owned restaurants that get a 35-year run. It’s humbling and astounding to me,” he added.
Located on the second floor of 1136 Robson St., Vancouver, the restaurant is best known for its cozy and charming atmosphere alongside its Italian dishes and pastas.

Pizzeria Farina

After 13 years, Pizzeria Farina has closed its doors.
Located at 915 Main St., Farina was best known for its thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizza with fresh toppings.
“From the very first pie to the last slice shared at the communal table, we’ve felt nothing but love from this community. To everyone who lined up, brought a friend, or made us part of their routine — thank you. You made Farina what it is,” added the pizza restaurant.

The Sea House Fish and Chips
Known to many as one of the best fish and chips spots in the city, Sea House broke the sad news on Facebook, adding that the reason for the closure was that the two owners were going into a well-earned retirement.
“Affectionately known by many loyal customers as ‘the two grandmothers,’ they’ve been the heart and soul of The Sea House Fish and Chips since 1997,” said Sea House. “For almost three decades, they’ve proudly served what many consider Vancouver’s best thin-battered fish, prawns, and calamari.”
However, the new restaurant that is opening in the same space has shared that it will be serving the same fish and chips recipe.

Meinhardt Downtown Pacific Centre
An employee from Meinhardt Fine Foods confirmed that the grocery store had closed its Pacific Centre, with its final day being March 31.
For those unfamiliar, Meinhardt has been serving the Vancouver community since 1997 at its first location in South Granville. In 2012, the store was acquired by Buy-Low Foods LP, and in 2015, it expanded to its second location in the heart of downtown Vancouver, at Pacific Centre. But don’t worry, its South Granville spot at 3002 Granville St. is still up and running.

St. Regis Bar and Grill

St. Regis Bar and Grill shared the news of its closing on Instagram, thanking its loyal customers for their support over the years.
“Your patronage has meant the world to us,” said St. Regis. “We’ll forever cherish the memories made here.”

Heirs Pears
Signs on the windows of Heirs Pears indicate that the restaurant closed on February 25, 2025, citing an increase in rent and food and goods costs as the reason for the closure.
“We thank you for your love and support over the years — we will cherish the great memories,” added the restaurant.

Ramen One

Ramen One shared the news on Instagram that its final day would be on Sunday, May 18.
“After much thought and a difficult decision, we have made the choice to close Ramen One,” said the restaurant.
Ramen One is Vancouver’s first private dining experience, and it opened its doors in March 2024. When it opened, it was best known for its $10 ramen deal. At the start of 2025, Ramen One shared it would have to adjust its menu prices due to “rising food costs.” Since then, a new cafe has opened in its place.

Fresh Ideas Start Here

Fresh Ideas Start Here (F.I.S.H.) has closed the doors to its brick-and-mortar location and moved to an online-only model, with its final day being April 30.
“We’re excited for what’s to come for Fresh Ideas Start Here,” said Jenice Yu, co-owner of F.I.S.H. “I remember when we first opened in Market Crossing, we were just one of few stores. And now, the community has flourished and grown. We’ve had 17 incredible years at our Burnaby shop and are so grateful for our loyal customers.”

Suhang Restaurant
Dished received confirmation that Suhang Restaurant has closed its doors after over 15 years of serving dim sum to the Richmond community.
A representative from Tourism Richmond was able to share that the reason for the closure is that the owners were retiring.

Anthem Sound Lounge
After opening in November 2024, it appears that Anthem Sound Lounge has closed its doors just seven months later.
While an official closure announcement from the restaurant has yet to be made, reservations for Anthem Sound Lounge are no longer available, its Instagram is inactive, and it is listed as “Temporarily Closed” on Google.
However, another restaurant has to take over the location, specializing in Italian cuisine from the creators of Harbour Oyster & Bar and Social YVR.

Jiu Jiang Japanese Restaurant

Jiu Jiang operated in Kerrisdale for eight years. The self-proclaimed “hidden gem” restaurant shared that its lease has expired and will not be renewed.
Jiu Jiang offered an array of authentic sushi rolls, sashimi, hot pot, fried rice, and tons of appetizers. Its final day of operation was May 28.

Corner Pantry Co.
After less than a year of operation, Corner Pantry Co. quietly closed.
For those who don’t know, Corner Pantry Co. promised to deliver everything in 30 minutes or less with its in-house delivery team.

4 Stones Vegetarian Cuisine
“After 15 wonderful years of serving everyone fresh, flavourful vegetarian dishes, we have decided it’s time to hang up our aprons and embrace retirement,” 4 Stones Vegetarian Cuisine shared.
For those who did not have the chance to visit, 4 Stones was a popular small vegetarian Chinese restaurant that offered many vegan-labelled dishes.

Missing Chopsticks

Missing Chopsticks said the reason for the closure was that Chef Toby is returning to care for his family abroad, and that the restaurant has not found the right candidate to pass the torch to.

Taco ‘N Todo Mexican Taqueria

Located at 6196 Fraser St., the restaurant shared that it permanently closed its doors on May 12, 2025.
“We want to thank all our customers and followers for their loyalty over the past 3 years, sharing unforgettable moments and flavours with us.”
However, fans of Taco’ N Todo are still in luck, as the Mexican restaurant shared it will continue to operate its food truck.

Bagel Day

For those unfamiliar, Bagel Day offered an assortment of Asian-inspired and Jellycat-themed bagels and was owned by friends Michelle and Maureen. It was also well-known in the farmers market circuit and hosted numerous pop-ups throughout Metro Vancouver.
Bagel Day shared on Instagram that it would be ceasing its operations by the end of May.
“This is a decision we made back in November 2024 when we were in Hong Kong,” shared the bagel shop. “Contrary to what people may think… this decision was made on a whim and didn’t require much thinking/convincing on both sides, which seems like we’ve come full circle cause Bagel Day started on a whim as well.”
Mama’s Diner

Mama’s Diner announced on Instagram that its final day of operation was April 27.
“This journey has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re so grateful for every one of you who walked through our doors, supported us, and became part of our story. Your love and encouragement have meant the world,” said the restaurant.
