Whether it’s a local cafe, restaurant, or even grocery store, it’s been a tough year for the Metro Vancouver food scene. Unfortunately, we now have another closure to report on: Missing Chopsticks.

The Richmond restaurant shared the news on Instagram that after May 4, it would be closing its doors.

“We never set out to be just another restaurant. We set out to shift the food culture in Vancouver, to show that the stories we carry — growing up Asian in Canada, blending flavours we grew up with elevated culinary techniques — deserved a place in the world of fine dining,” said Missing Chopsticks.

For those unfamiliar, Missing Chopsticks bills itself as a French restaurant with an Asian twist.

The restaurant said the reason for the closure was that Chef Toby is returning to care for his family abroad and that the restaurant has not found the right candidate to pass the torch to.

“To our peers, thank you for inspiring us and pushing the scene forward. To our guests, thank you for giving this radical concept a try and create lasting memories together. We have had the blessing to now call some of you our dear friends and we are thankful for that,” added Missing Chopsticks.

Before it closes, Missing Chopsticks is offering a special final menu called Taste of Home, which it called “a love letter to where it all began. Familiar flavours, elevated with care. A perfect full circle.”

“Come celebrate with us one more time before May 4. Not with sadness, but with gratitude, pride, and hope,” said Missing Chopsticks. “Because restaurants come and go — but the stories, the moments, and the change we sparked… those stay forever.”
