The restaurant industry in and around Vancouver hasn’t been able to catch a break, with many longstanding restaurants closing their doors. Unfortunately, we have now received word of another longstanding Italian spot that will be shuttering after 35 years.

Zefferelli’s Spaghetti Joint told Dished that it would be closing its doors after this May long weekend.

“In 1989, I could not have imagined writing this goodbye letter,” wrote Alberto Lemmo, owner of Zefferelli’s.

“There are precious few independently owner restaurants that get a 35-year run. It’s humbling and astounding to me,” he added.

Located on the second floor of 1136 Robson St., Vancouver, the restaurant is best known for its cozy and charming atmosphere alongside its Italian dishes and pastas.

“After over three decades of being Vancouver’s dignified spaghetti joint, we are honoured to have been part of your celebrations, anniversaries, and special occasions,” added Lemmo. “I am grateful to our loyal diners and the hundreds of staff who helped make Zefferelli’s a Robson Street institution over the years, and I am proud we did it our way. Never pretentious or stuffy, sometimes kind of loud and quirky, but we never wavered in our commitment to always provide fun, quality, and value in portion sizes that even Mama would be proud of.”

Zefferelli’s joins the list of other longstanding restaurants and grocery stores closing their doors, including Fresh Idea’s Start Here (F.I.S.H.), St. Regis Bar and Grill, Mahony’s False Creek, and Meinhardt Pacific Centre.

Zefferelli’s will close permanently at the end of the May long weekend, which lands on May 19, 2025.
