What: Parks Canada is offering free admission to all of its national parks and historic sites this July 1. Whether you live near one of these beautiful destinations, or you’re up for a little road trip, you’re going to want to clear your calendars this Canada day and get exploring. And even though admission to these parks is only free on Canada Day, if you’re 17 and under, you can visit all Parks Canada locations for free, any time of the year.

Lululemon Summer Yoga Series at False Creek 2019

What: Lululemon’s popular Summer Yoga Series is returning to Vancouver for another summer. Participants of any age or skill level will be able to take part in their classes at the recently-opened Concord Community Park in False Creek. Each session, which takes place every Monday at 6 pm through the end of August, will be held on the scenic seawall at the Northeast False Creek area. In addition to the free yoga classes, the community park space also features beach volleyball, half-court basketball, ping-pong, and pickup floor hockey games designated for youth in the community.

World Naked Bike Ride Vancouver 2019

What: Each year, the ‘positive’ protest rolls through downtown streets to make a statement against car culture, oil spills, and pipelines. Participants can ride as free or as covered as they please. As far as a method of transportation, anything goes, from bikes to skateboards, to rollerblades. Participants are encouraged to gather at Sunset Beach at 12 pm for socializing, body painting, and bike decorating. The event will begin at 2 pm, following an eight to 10 km route along several major streets in the downtown core.

Event organizers wish to remind participants that helmets are heavily recommended. The World Naked Bike Ride is a body positive event and a “Leave No Trace” event. All activities are rain or shine.

What: The Golden Spike Days Festival is one of the oldest and longest running family events in BC. The festival is held at Rocky Point Park around Canada Day, attracting upwards of 40,000 people of all walks of life with live entertainment, special events and activities for all ages.

AIBC Summer Architectural Walking Tours

What: Through its summer Walking Tour Program, the Architectural Institute of B.C. offers stunning architectural perspectives of six Vancouver neighbourhoods. Sites include Chinatown, Gastown, Yaletown, Downtown, West End and Strathcona, the first neighbourhood in Vancouver. For locals and tourist alike, the tours are a fun and engaging way to learn more about the architecture and history of Vancouver. A distance of 3 km is covered over a period of two hours – comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Lawn Summer Nights

Public Disco Laneway Series 2019

What: Vancouver’s Public Disco pop-up events will make its return this summer, transforming outdoor spaces into daytime dance parties. The 2019 Laneway Series is an all-ages summer concert series in partnership with Creative BC, Downtown Vancouver, FACTOR, and Granville Island Brewing. The Disco will be most similar to past events held by the group, showcasing feel-good music from up-and-coming artists and curated dance performances. The Laneway Cabaret will feature live music acts ranging from folk to hip hop, with DJs throughout the day.

Geektopia

What: Whether it’s anime, fantasy, horror, superhero, or science fiction, fans are invited to celebrate their passions at Geektopia. Attendees can look forward to seminars, celebrities, panels, and open gaming events backed up with plenty of prizes. A cosplay competition, complete with two cash prizes, will also be held over the course of the weekend. Organizers have also partnered up with the Amanda Todd Legacy Society, in an effort to stand up against bullying and cyberbullying. Carnaval del Sol 2019

What: Vancouver’s biggest two-day Latin American festival Carnaval del Sol is returning this summer. The event features live music, art, dance, sports, poetry, and food. What: The 1,000-foot-long slip-and-slide will be returning to Lower Lonsdale for its fifth year. Using inner tubes, sliders go down the hill along a four-block-long stretch of Lonsdale Avenue from Victoria Park to 4th Street, where there is a large finish line splash pool. Thousands of others will also be along the sidelines and at the finish line to watch sliders go down the roadway at speeds of up to 15 km/h.

Other attractions for the weekend include food trucks and music around Lower Lonsdale. Parking for the event will be limited, so biking, walking, or transit is encouraged. For those sliding, North Shore Neighbourhood House will offer a bag check, change rooms, and free shuttle to and from Victoria Park.

Steveston Heritage Experience

Honda Celebration of Light fireworks 2019

What: The sky over Vancouver’s English Bay will once again be lit up with fireworks for three nights this summer, as the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition returns to the city. Now in its 29th year, the Honda Celebration of Light features India on July 27, Canada on July 31, and Croatia on August 3.

Back again for all three days, the Park Stage at Second Beach is a free, family-friendly festival site featuring live music, food trucks, sponsor activations, and a site-wide liquor license. The event also welcomes back the Red Bull Air Show, a spectacular pre-show performance happening over all three festival nights. Returning this year, radio partner Z95.3 will be presenting Z-Fest on The Keg Lounge stage overlooking English Bay for three nights of music programming before the pyrotechnic displays.

Caribbean Days

What: During the last weekend of July each year, the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society of BC presents the Caribbean Days Festival. The north side of Waterfront Park has a food concession area and a large beverage garden. Enjoy spicy Caribbean food as well as other international fare, then relax with an ice-cold drink in the hot sun. On the south side, there is an outdoor music festival. Dancers and other performers entertain while bands play Reggae, Calypso, Latin and other international sounds to a large crowd. There is a Family Zone with face painting, a children’s playground and other activities.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in concert

What: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has announced the return of their ever-popular Film Concert Series. This time around, they’ll be presenting a screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, with Oscar-winning composer John Williams’ musical score performed live to the audience. Khatsahlano Street Party 2019

What: The free annual festival will take over 10 blocks along Kitsilano’s 4th Avenue between Burrard Street and Macdonald Street. Symphony at Sunset 2019

What: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Park Board are hosting the second annual Symphony at Sunset on Sunday, July 7, 2019. Conducted by VSO Music Director Otto Tausk, Symphony at Sunset includes something for everyone, from classical favourites to film score hits like West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet.

There will be food trucks on site for the event, and the public is encouraged to bring a picnic, a blanket and to make an evening of it at Sunset Beach Park. More than 14,000 people are estimated to attend the outdoor festivities. Concertgoers are also asked to bring low chairs so as not to obstruct the view of other audience members.

Queen + Adam Lambert 2019 Rhapsody Tour

What: The British rockers and the American singer are back together for a revamped Rhapsody tour that will feature a brand new larger-than-life production. The six-week North American tour will kick off in Vancouver on July 10 at Rogers Arena and will see Brian May, Roger Taylor, and Adam Lambert perform in arenas across the US and Canada.

Kiefer Sutherland

Ozzy Osbourne: No More Tours 2 at Rogers Arena

What: All aboard! Ozzy Osbourne, better known as the Prince of Darkness is bringing “No More Tours 2” to Vancouver. Over the course of his career, he’s sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, received a handful of Grammy nominations, and seen numerous albums hit platinum status. Osborne will be performing with Megadeth as his special guest. This is the first time that Megadeth will join the superstar on a full tour, although they’ve previously performed at festivals together.

The VSO Presents Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II

Punk In Drublic Craft Beer and Music Festival

What: Created from the mind of NOFX’s frontman, Fat Mike, and named for NOFX’s classic Punk In Drublic album, the festival will be showcasing the best in punk rock music and regional craft beer. Taking place at the PNE Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 13 the event is slated to feature performances from rockers NOFX, Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, The Real McKenzies, Chixdiggit, and The Last Gang.

Vancouver Folk Music Festival 2019

What: The 42nd annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival (VFMF)  brings together some of the best contemporary folk and roots music artists from around the globe. Attracting upwards of 40,000 people each year, the festival gives attendees the chance to experience the music and culture of 60 international, national, and local acts.
