FEATURED ON THE LISTED GUIDE
If there’s one thing that every Vancouverite can agree upon, it’s that Hastings Racecourse knows how to throw epic summertime events.
Okay, summer doesn’t officially start until June 20, but the sun is shining and we’re calling an early start to the season at the city’s favourite spot. The Dog Days of Summer series is returning to Hastings Racecourse for two days of longer, action-packed races that you’ll want to add to your calendar.
It all begins on the weekend of May 25 and 26 with the beloved Bulldog Races. The cutest purebred British, English, and French bulldogs you’ve ever seen will be running the track between each horse race as they compete for a $500 prize and honour of being the “Top Dog of Hastings.”
If you know an English, French, or British bulldog, up for the challenge, registration is open from now until May 19.
You’ll also have the chance to meet and greet a doggy influencer who will be in attendance at the Bulldog Races ā none other than Mister Bentley.Ā Want to find out what other dogs will be joining the race? Simply check out Hastings Racecourse on Instagram to find out.
Next up on the weekend of June 22 and 23 are the heartwarming Corgi Races. Last year, we saw the inaugural corgi races bring adorable (and hysterical) moments to the North Renfrew race track, with four-legged athletes competing for the “Top Corgi” prize. If you think your corgi has what it takes, registration for the races officially opens on May 21, 2019.
But it doesn’t end there.
On the weekend of July 13 and 14, you can take in all of the action at the iconic Wiener Dog RacesĀ at Hastings Racecourse. Have you ever seen a pack of incredibly excited Dachshunds racing?
It’s something that really needs to be on your summer bucket list for too many reasons. Don’t forget, registration for the Wiener Dog Races officially opens on June 17.
Best of all, it’s completely free to attend each of these Dog Days of Summer weekend events. If you’re feeling a bit extra and want to spend the race day in style, you can choose a VIP package to take it all in from your own reserved box.
And since bets are as low as $2, you can even put down a first-time bet or two and see how it goes.Ā You don’t need to be a betting pro or know anything about horse (or dog) racing to attend.
Besides, Hastings Racecourse is one of the best places to spend a day out when the sun is shining because it has spectacular races, an amazing selection of food trucks, drink options, and one of the city’s largest patios with beautiful views.
Simply round up your friends and get ready to have the best summer you’ve had in years.
