19 notable restaurants and bars that have closed so far this year in Calgary

It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far for Calgary’s restaurant scene, with plenty of new openings, but sadly, there were some casualties, too.

From decades-old establishments to some newer kids on the block, there have been a host of eateries that have closed their doors in the city.

As we enter the second half of 2026, here’s a look back at some of the Calgary restaurants that are no longer around but won’t be forgotten.

Lina’s Trattoria, an Italian restaurant brought to life by Lina’s Market, revealed that it would be closing, after first opening its doors in August 2024.

“To our wonderful Calgary community, serving you has been the honor of a lifetime. You turned our dream into a reality, and we are eternally grateful for every meal and memory shared,” the team said.

Calan Beef Noodle – Downtown

Calan Beef Noodle, Calgary’s first hand-pulled noodle restaurant, revealed that it’ll be closing its downtown location, almost six years after it first opened its doors in the neighbourhood.

While the restaurant did not give a reason for the closure, it confirmed its final day of service at the location was June 28.

Makan Malaysian Cuisine

Makan Malaysian Cuisine shared on Instagram that it would be closing, just over a year after opening.

The spot was known for its Malaysian dishes, including nasi lemak, laksa, and Sabah-style Butter Chicken.

Pablo Cheese Tart

Japanese bakery Pablo Cheese Tart closed its YYC outpost after opening in 2021.

“Thank you for every visit, every order, and every kind word over the years,” the post reads.

Auntie’s Chinese Burger

Auntie’s Chinese Burger, a spot known for its unique menu of Chinese street food, is no more, with the spot now listed as “permanently closed” on Google.

The spot was known for its dishes such as the Jian Bing (Chinese crepes), cold noodles, and, of course, Chinese-style burgers, known as Roujiamo.

Ramen Taka

Ramen Taka, a restaurant that had been on the scene since 2021, had its final day of service on May 24.

No reason was given by the restaurant for the closure.

Love Damian, which has made its home at Downtown Calgary’s Meat & Bread for the last 18 months, has revealed that its final service was on May 29.

Brought to life by Chef Kyle Opel, inspired by his father’s love of Northern Italian cuisine, Love Damian has been serving up delicious fare from freshly baked focaccia, handmade pasta and more.

Pimlico Bar

Pimlico Bar closing Calgary

Pimlico Bar shared a post to its Instagram story, revealing that it would be closing permanently, just a year after opening.

“It didn’t last as long as we planned, but it was real while it did,” the post read.

The Bridgeland eatery known for its bold Asian-inspired eats closed, with its final service taking place on May 30.

“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has dined with us, celebrated with us, shared kind words, and helped make Jin Bar part of Calgary’s dining community,” the team said in a statement.

Franca’s, the Edmonton Trail spot which has been open for over 20 years, closed in May.

While many will be sad to see Franca’s go, the owners also shared the exciting news that the space would very soon be home to a brand-new restaurant, Petalo.

Lounge Eighteen shared that it would be closing to the public after “10 amazing years.”

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every customer, friend, and supporter who walked through our doors over the past decade,” the Lounge Eighteen team said.

Home and Away

Home and Away closed its Calgary location at 1207 1st St. SW in April.

First opening on 17th Avenue, Home and Away closed its OG location back in 2019 after almost four years in operation. However, it reopened later that year in its Victoria Park spot, where it remained for almost seven years.

SaVeg Cafe, a plant-based Korean-fusion cafe, shared that it would be officially winding down service on April 26.

SaVeg was brought to life by mother-daughter duo, Vera (Mama Lee) and Rose, and first opened to the public in 2018. Since then, the spot has become known and loved for its plant-based takes on dishes.

Frenchie by UNA, the wine bar concept tucked behind UNA’s 17th Avenue outpost, revealed in March that it has now closed to the public.

“After many good times, many great glasses of wine, and more plates of cheese than we could ever count, Frenchie is now closed,” the Frenchie team shared in an Instagram post.

Having opened in 1974, Smugglers has become a firm favourite in Calgary for its aged prime rib, seafood and steakhouse classics.

However, this month, the restaurant revealed it had made the difficult decision to vacate its location at 6920 Macleod Tr., alleging it was due to ongoing issues with the premises and landlords.

Odd Burger, a Canadian chain known for its vegan takes on fast-food favourites, revealed that its only Calgary location at 1515c 14th St. SW, would be closing with its final day of service on Feb. 28.

Chinatown’s longest-standing BBQ spot, Something More, closed its doors in March.

The spot was known for its Chinese BBQ dishes and rice boxes.

PZA Parlour, a well-known and loved Italian restaurant on Macleod Trail, closed its doors in January after 10 years.

While the team said it was a “difficult decision” to close the restaurant, rising costs were a large factor in the choice not to renew the lease.

Clay Oven, a spot offering authentic Indian cuisine in Calgary, revealed it would be permanently closing its doors after 28 years of service, citing a number of reasons behind the closure, including “rising food and operating costs, intense competition, and a shift in customer dining habits.”
