While Calgary saw plenty of restaurant closures over the course of 2025, another can be added to the list, as one of the city’s longstanding Indian restaurants has closed its doors.

Clay Oven, a spot offering authentic Indian cuisine in Calgary, revealed it would be permanently closing its doors on Dec. 31, after 28 years of service, citing a number of reasons behind the closure.

“Unfortunately, our business has not been able to fully recover since the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising food and operating costs, intense competition, and a shift in customer dining habits have made it very challenging to stay afloat,” the restaurant said in an Instagram post.

However, the team thanked supporters and staff members in Calgary who have supported it over its 28-year run in the city.

“It is truly a remarkable accomplishment for an independent restaurant. We couldn’t have achieved this without the unwavering support of our patrons and the dedicated efforts of our staff throughout the years.”

After almost three decades, the Clay Oven is sure to be missed by many.
