Popular Calgary vegan cafe to close after eight years

One of Calgary’s first vegan cafes will be closing its doors after eight years.
SaVeg Cafe, a plant-based Korean-fusion cafe, shared that it will be officially winding down service at its location at The Academy at 637 11th Ave. SW, at the end of April.
“After eight+ beautiful years of serving you delicious vegan meals and countless cups of coffee, our journey as one of Calgaryâs first fully vegan cafes will come to an end April 26, 2026,” the spot said on Instagram.
SaVeg was brought to life by mother-daughter duo, Vera (Mama Lee) and Rose, and first opened to the public in 2018. Since then, the spot has become known and loved for its plant-based takes on dishes such as bulgogi, bibimbap, Korean-style curry, and its famous banana bread.

“When we first opened up as a fully vegan Korean-fusion cafe in 2018, we had no idea how it would turn out or whether we could succeed in this city. Since then, our little plant-based cafe became and remained a proud member of the vegan community here in Calgary,” the SaVeg team added.
In the meantime, the team teased that it is working on something special to close this chapter.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone for these eight unforgettable years,” they added.
While we’ll be sad to see SaVeg go, there is still plenty of time to visit the spot and grab a last meal (or three) ahead of its closure.
