Japanese ramen spot to close its only Calgary location after almost five years

A 17th Avenue spot known for its ramen and Japanese eats is closing its doors this week.

Ramen Taka, a restaurant which has been on the scene since 2021, has revealed it will be closing its doors in Calgary this week. Its final day of service will be May 24.

No reason was given by the restaurant for the closure.

The eatery, which hails from Japan, first opened in Vancouver in 2018, before opening its 17th Avenue spot, where it served up its signature Asahikawa Ramen and more.

“Whether you’ve been coming since the beginning or just recently discovered us, we’d love to serve you one last bowl before we say goodbye,” it said in an Instagram post.

As a farewell and thank you for the support from Calgarians over the years, Ramen Taka will be offering select ramen for 50% off from now until May 24, including its Asahikawa Shoyu, Paitan Shio, Original Dragon Shio/Miso, Black Garlic and Signature Miso.

While we’re sad to see it go, there’s still plenty of time to grab a ramen and say goodbye to this Calgary spot.
