A popular Calgary sports bar and restaurant has announced it will be closing its doors at the end of the month.

Home & Away, a staple spot on 17th Ave, announced this morning that after nearly four years of operation they will be shuttering.
Owners sent a message out to their patrons explaining the decision to close at 1331 17th Avenue SW wasn’t an easy one.
Home & Away cited the economic climate as one of the reasons for this choice. The restaurant said its property taxes have tripled since 2016.
Pair that inflation with an impending three-month road closure in front of its building, and the owners realized staying open is a “battle we just aren’t going to win.”

The last weekend of operation will be June 28 to 30, after that, Home & Away hope to find a “new and improved location with appropriate property taxes” to reopen.
We’ll keep you posted on this as details come, for now, head to Home & Away in the next few weeks and give them a proper sendoff from its OG space.

Dearest H&A Family,
In the fall of 2015 we joined the 17th Ave community and were excited to be a part of the rich history of Calgary’s infamous Red Mile. At the time we couldn’t have asked for a better location alongside some of the area’s longest running establishments.
Over the past couple of years the economic climate has radically changed and we have seen some of our amazing neighbours close their doors. Our property taxes have tripled since 2016 and we are currently facing a road closure in front of H&A for the next 3 months of patio season. We’ve been doing everything in our power to make it work at our current location but these factors have made us realize this is a battle we just aren’t going to win.
We’ve put too much time and effort into H&A to see it fail due to circumstances beyond our control. After much consideration we have made the decision to close the doors on our current location at the end of the month, our last weekend bash will be June 28th-30th.
You know we couldn’t leave you though, right? We are currently working hard on a new and improved location with appropriate property taxes and will hope to secure an new spot in time for puck drop & tip off. Thank you to all of you that have supported and helped make H&A what it is today. To our amazing staff and to everyone that has come out to share a pint and wings, shoot some hoops or beat us at Skeeball. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU!
We’ll always remember where we were for the Flames & Jays playoff runs, The Falcons Superbowl collapse, The Mayweather/McGregor fight, Peyton’s final Superbowl swan song, Iggy’s retirement game & of course being Calgary’s home of the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors!!! You best believe we’re going out with a bang, please join us for our final send-off to 17th Ave party June 28th – 30th and let’s raise a pint together for the last time in our original spot!
