Nomo Nomo is a new Japanese snack bar that specializes in yĆshoku cuisine, which Executive Chef Benedict Lim describes as a section of Japanese cuisine that draws significant influence from the Western world.
âItâs almost like the world through a Japanese lens,â he said, adding that he is taking fan-favourite dishes like katsu and tempura and branching out from there.
âNow, hopefully, we branch out in the right way so that we tell a story. We kind of tell the Vancouver version of the evolution of the izakaya,â he added.

The cityâs latest dining concept is looking to capitalize on the constant change in the restaurant industry by utilizing the space to open multiple short-lived dining concepts one after another.
To start, the first restaurant to occupy this space is Mojo Cantina-Izakaya, which aims to combine Mexican street food with Japanese izakaya cuisine.
On the menu, youâll find bites like udon mole, yakitori al pastor, flan brĂ»lĂ©e with miso caramel, and much more, alongside select cocktails.
However, this restaurant wonât be around for long. A representative from Mojo confirmed to Dished that it will operate until at least the end of the year, if not longer, before being replaced by the teamâs next restaurant idea.
âOver the past summer, the team have been thinking a lot about what excites them most in this industry, and the answer is always the same: creating something new,â Mojo told Dished. âSo instead of sticking to one fixed restaurant, they are turning this Mount Pleasant space into their âplaygroundâ of sorts.â

The Dolce Amore Caffetteria, located in Burnaby, officially opened its doors on Oct. 4.
âSimilar to our favourite spots in Italy, our caffetteria will be open daily, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and our hope is itâll be an all-day destination where people can come together for various reasons throughout the day,â said Daniela and Giancarlo. âFor example, a cup of morning coffee and cornetti on the way to work, casual lunches, afternoon breaks, evening aperitivi, and of course, a little digestivo to go with our gelato.â
On the pastry side of things, youâll find a selection of homemade treats like cornetti (the Italian version of a croissant made with brioche-like dough), pain au chocolats, and seasonal dishes. Thereâs also tiramisu, cookies, and cheesecake along with freshly baked artisanal breads and baguettes.
When it comes to more substantial offerings, Dolce Amore Caffetteria will serve a variety of focaccia sandwiches, pizza al taglio (a.k.a Roman-style pizza), and savoury cornetti options with ingredients like prosciutto, creamy burrata, and grilled vegetables.
