When chefs Devon Latte and Lucas Johnston decided to open a restaurant together, they knew they wanted to showcase the best of what BC had to offer. At least, that’s what they told Dished when we had the chance to chat with the chef duo.
Latte and Johnston are gearing up to open Nero Tondo, a hyper-local restaurant opening in the former Elephant space.
After cooking together for nearly five years at Vancouver restaurant The Acorn, the duo decided to venture forth and open their own restaurant, taking a lot of the things they learned with them.

In case you missed the news, we reported last year about a new gourmet mini donut shop opening in Vancouver. Now, the day has finally come and Holi Doughnuts is open for business.
Previously, Holi told Dished that it has two anchor flavours: Legacy Glaze and Cinnamon Sugar. It will also offer rotating flavours that it said will “redefine what a doughnut can be.” Additionally, Holi teased a caviar doughnut is in the works. The spot also serves up pea flower iced tea and cold brew.

Peak Donuts

Last year, we headed over to Surrey to check out the opening of its latest Peak Donuts location and to try the cheddar and onion fritter that everyone was raving about, and it was definitely worth the hype.
This hefty donut is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus, this thing was stuffed full of cheddar and onions and brushed with garlic butter. We’re drooling just thinking about it.
Peak Donuts also serves flavours like Tiramisu, Strawberry Pistachio, and Peanut Butter and Jelly, just to name a few.

Calling itself Onigiri Ya Live, this new location is operating inside Maruhachi Gaiden.
“Onigiri Ya Live offers freshly prepared onigiri for dine-in customers, enhancing your dining experience with authentic Japanese flavours. This differs from our Broadway location’s grab-and-go concept,” said the onigiri spot.

Jack’s Spot is a new cafe inspired by owner Stephanie Wong’s dog.
“The inspiration started from my dog Jack, who is a Jack Russel Terrier, as he enjoys my sourdough bread (and sits there to accompany me in making it),” Wong told Dished.
As for the fare, Wong said customers will find coffee from local roasters, a range of French-inspired pastries, sweets, and, of course, sourdough loaves.
