Chef Steven Che, the same chef behind one of Vancouver’s top pizzerias, Just Pizza, just opened the doors to Haisan this fall. The restaurant features a sixteen-course menu that’s shaped by Steven’s training in renowned kitchens across the globe.

“Our menu is Chinese Pacific Northwest — one point of view, cooked the way I already think about food,” said Che. “Haisan cooks for the families who’ve lived this integration for generations, and for anyone curious what it becomes at this level of craft.”

The menu is designed to bring together childhood flavours that Che grew up loving, while also showcasing the ingredients that our coast has to offer.

The Moon is split into two distinct areas: a bar and a dining room separated by a thick curtain. In the 27-seat dining room, the kitchen sits fully open in the centre of the room. Guests will have the option to enjoy a seasonally evolving Ă  la carte menu, or leave their meal up to the kitchen to curate a multi-course selection of dishes. As for the bar, it offers an intimate space made for dropping in that is intended to be a contemporary take on the classic martini bar. Martinis anchor the drink program, with The Moon offering the classics alongside rotating variations. There will also be other signature cocktails and spirit-free drinks to round out the list, alongside bar snacks that draw on seasonal ingredients.

Leading the kitchen at Rosalia Osteria is culinary director Phil Scarfone, a seasoned chef with over 20 years of experience spanning fine dining and rustic Italian cuisine. Scarfone has previously served as opening head chef at both Nightingale and Elio Volpe, and as culinary director of Banda Volpi. He was also a runner-up on Top Chef Canada Season 7.

At the heart of the menu, folks will find an exclusively fresh, house-made pasta program featuring classics like spaghetti, rigatoni, lasagna, and gnocchi, alongside weekly rotating specials. “The belt is the shortest path from the cutting board to your chopsticks. Each plate leaves the chef’s hands and reaches your seat in under a minute, so nothing sits under glass and nothing waits for a ticket,” wrote the restaurant on its website.

There will also be 12 seats located right in front of the chefs, where guests can sit and order dishes that won’t be found on the belt. Thirdly, there is “Zumi To Go,” which will feature nigiri boxes and hand rolls.

One More Scoop, a new ice cream shop by the same team behind Kits Beach Coffee, has just opened its doors steps away from Kitsilano Beach.

“We created One More Scoop because we love the simple ritual of going for ice cream. Walking to the beach with a cone. Stopping for a scoop after dinner. Bringing the kids for a sundae. Meeting a friend and deciding you have room for one more,” wrote One More Scoop on Instagram.

As for the reasoning behind its name, the team shared that it has to do with turning Vancouver’s typical rainy weather into “a little bit of magic.”

“On rainy days, guests who order a single or double scoop get one more scoop, on us,” wrote the shop.

Folks who have grown up in and around Vancouver have most likely stepped into a White Spot more than once during their lifetime. The brand has been around for nearly a century at this point. Following the opening of White Spot, the team then debuted their quick-service Triple O’s location, making it that much more convenient to grab your favourite burgers.

But now, the team just opened a fresh concept in Metro Vancouver: Nat’s.

Located at the Langley Events Centre, Nat’s is designed as a neighbourhood clubhouse offering “quality classic food and drink, friendly all-star service, and a social bump-into-friends experience.”

“We’re serving up contemporary West Coast crowd-pleasers that are loved by hungry pre- and post-gamers and diners who crave quality eats,” writes Nat’s on its website.

% Arabica — Oakridge Park

Arabica Vancouver

Arabica Oakridge Park (Marco Ovies/Dished)

Following the opening of its Richmond location last year, % Arabica has officially opened the doors to its first Vancouver location inside Oakridge Park.

This will be the cafe chain’s eighth location in Canada, and 247th location across the globe. It is also the chain’s first Vancouver proper location, though it had operated a pop-up inside Oakridge Park Gallery previously.

“Illuminated overlapping oak rings form its primary architectural vocabulary,” said Arabica in reference to the design of the new location. “The sequential wooden ribs generate a distinct geometric rhythm. Numerous framed cut‑outs keep the pavilion transparent; visitors and passers-by can observe baristas crafting coffee from multiple viewpoints around. Service flows of ordering, picking‑up, and back‑of‑house areas are elegantly woven together within this sculptural timber structure.”

The cafe also shared that the curved forms are meant to strike a “deliberate visual dialogue with the mall’s original fluted column capitals and fluid atrium sculptures.”
