14 construction projects to watch out for around Calgary this fall

With summer winding down in Calgary, construction is showing no signs of slowing down, with plenty of projects in the works to keep an eye on this fall.

Whether you’re worried about road closures or just excited about new things popping up in the city, here are 14 construction projects to watch out for around Calgary this fall.

Forum Thermal

Forum Thermal, located on the corner of 5th Street and 10th Avenue SW, is set to be Calgary’s largest architecturally-driven urban thermal spa, and it’s currently under construction. The spa will feature six signature pools, three saunas and two steam rooms right in the heart of downtown Calgary. While there is no exact opening date for the spa, it is expected to open in late 2026.

Bridgeland-Riverside pedestrian bridge

Construction is currently underway on a new Calgary pedestrian bridge designed to improve connections for Bridgeland-Riverside residents. Crews are currently working on the first phase of the project, which aims to improve accessibility to Bridgeland-Riverside, the Bridgeland-Memorial LRT Station, St. Patrick’s Island, and nearby amenities, while creating a safer route for people walking, wheeling, and cycling, and strengthening the connection between the community and the Bow River.

Vibe East Village

A major new residential project is under construction in East Village. The new building, called Vibe, broke ground near The Confluence earlier this year and is set to transform an empty lot in the neighbourhood. The project is just one of several new buildings planned for the area.

Truman

Calgary is getting yet another addition to its skyline, and this time it’s an 18-storey residential building. Located at 1005 1st St. SW, the mixed-use project will include 120 residential units, along with approximately 22,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. The tower’s estimated completion date is set for Jan. 1, 2027.

Autograph Collection Hotel at Stampede Park

Construction is underway on the first hotel in Stampede Park, and it looks snazzy. The 13-storey, upscale lifestyle boutique hotel is set to feature approximately 320 rooms, 15,000 square feet of meeting and ballroom space, and 14,000 square feet of food and beverage offerings, including restaurants, a lobby bar, a coffee shop, and a rooftop lounge with views of downtown. It’s slated to open in 2028.

8th Street SW revitalization

This project is set to transform 8th Street SW between 2nd Avenue SW and 17th Avenue SW, adding upgraded sidewalks, protected pathways, landscaping, and new public spaces designed to make the street more welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and visitors. Construction began in August, and Calgarians can expect to see permanent curbside lane closures along 8th Street SW between 4th and 12th Avenue SW as part of the street’s redesign. Construction is expected to continue until early 2027.

Imperia

Truman

Truman is bringing a new skyscraper to downtown Calgary, and it has a snazzy design. Imperia, which is located on the corner of 11th Avenue and 4th Street SW, is set to feature 27 storeys, 270 luxury residences, and 11 on-site amenities.

Richmond Green Park

Richmond Green Park in Calgary is currently undergoing a major upgrade and construction that is going to continue into the fall. Phase 2B of the project is expected to begin in September, which will include pathway additions and connections, a new picnic area, stormwater management improvements, and upgrades to the disc golf area.

Scotia Place

The Calgary Flames’ new home, Scotia Place, is well into construction and is expected to be complete in Fall 2027. As work ramps up, several impacts were announced earlier this year, including partial closures along 5A Street SE and Flores Ladue Parade. Additionally, 14th Avenue SE saw a full closure and was temporarily opened for the Calgary Stampede before closing again. It is set to reopen this fall.

Additional lane reductions and closures are also expected later in 2026 on 5A Street SE and Flores Ladue Parade. Work on the 6th Street SE underpass will also continue throughout 2026 and 2027. The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation says Calgarians can expect various lane and access restrictions in the area.

Poplin

Poplin is a huge 16-storey, 248,000 sq. ft. residential building that will include commercial retail space, along with amenities such as a fitness and wellness centre, a business centre, meeting rooms, and outdoor spaces right in the community of Bridgeland. Construction was anticipated to start with stripping and grading in March of 2026, and it’s set to be complete by the third quarter of 2028.

Memorial Drive extension

Memorial Drive is getting an extension that will extend the road eastward from Abbeydale Drive over Stoney Trail and connect to 84 Street E. The new roadway will be designed as an urban boulevard, a roadway style that is more livable, functional, and accessible for all users. Construction on the project recently got underway.

Saddle Ridge Crossing

Saddle Ridge Crossing

Saddle Ridge Crossing is a massive development coming to the Saddle Ridge neighbourhood. Once complete, it’s set to feature over 200,000 sq. ft. of retail space and around 600 condos. The first phase of the project is currently underway, bringing 83,000 sq. ft. of retail and 125 condos to the area.

Broadway on 17th

Broadway on 17th

Broadway on 17th is about to break a record for its height. It is planned as a dense mixed-use community anchored by a 499-foot, 46-storey tower, which will stand as the tallest residential building in Calgary. Construction on the project is currently underway, but it’s not expected to be complete until 2030.

Belmont Fieldhouse and Library

The Calgary Belmont Fieldhouse and Library is currently under construction, and it’s going to continue through fall before it’s expected to open in 2027. The fieldhouse will be approximately 118,000 sq. ft. and include an artificial turf field for a range of sports, viewing areas, dressing rooms, and washroom facilities, while the library will include public meeting rooms, open seating areas, and a children’s library.
