Construction underway on new 18-storey building in downtown Calgary

Calgary is getting yet another addition, with construction underway on a new 18-storey residential building near the downtown core.
The new development, called Gallery First & Tenth, comes from Truman and can be found at 1005 1st St. SW.
The mixed-use project will include 120 residential units, along with approximately 22,000 sq. ft. of commercial space on the lower levels. The building is designed with a two-storey podium and will bring retail and gathering spaces to the area.

The project is currently on stage two of six, with foundation work underway. In a May 2026 update, Truman shared photos of the construction progress, showing crews working on site as the building begins to take shape.
Once complete, the development will add more housing options to one of Calgary’s most walkable areas. The building even scored a 99 walk score and was touted as a “walker’s paradise” on its website.

Truman
According to Truman, construction is expected to move forward quickly, with the tower’s estimated completion date set for Jan. 1, 2027, and the developer stating the project will be completed no later than Dec. 31, 2027.
This isn’t the only building Truman is working on in downtown Calgary. It is also currently working on a 27-storey building with a wild design and the new Fairmont coming to Calgary.
