A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new building in East Village earlier this week, the first of four new developments coming to the neighbourhood in 2026.
Calgary’s East Village is set to undergo some major transformations this year, with the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) rolling out plans for four new spaces.
The first project, Library Square, is being developed by Bankside Properties and will include 162 purpose-built rental homes in two six-storey buildings, located just east of the Central Library. Construction is expected to begin in February, with tenants moving in by 2027.

“As our city’s demand for housing and hotel rooms continues to grow, so too does development industry confidence in East Village, and we are proud to partner with the industry to bring these much-needed homes and hotel rooms to life,” said Kate Thompson, president and CEO of CMLC, in a release.
Library Square isn’t the only project CMLC has scoped out for 2026. Trico Communities intends to develop “The Edgewater,” a nine-storey building that will offer approximately 170 residential units, along with commercial space and one-site child-care services.

CMLC
Slokker Homes plans to build “Vibe,” which will provide 218 residential units and 1,100 square meters of commercial space in a 13-storey building.

Last but not least for 2026, Truman is set to start on a brand-new five-storey hotel, complete with 132 rooms, expanding the neighbourhood’s hospitality options.
Along with these projects, planning is currently in progress for “Lyric,” a 208-unit residential building from Ayshire Group.

In total, the new developments will bring 132 new hotel rooms to East Village, along with more than 7000 new rental and condo homes.
“I’m thrilled to see this breadth of residential development coming to fruition in East Village,” said Ward Seven Councillor Myke Atkinson.
