The City of Calgary has just announced that construction is underway for a new library and rec centre being built in the community of Belmont.

The Belmont Fieldhouse and Library will be located near the intersection of 210 Avenue SW and Creekside Boulevard SW. The project will feature a new branch of the Calgary Public Library and an indoor multi-sport recreation space operated by the City of Calgary.

The estimated cost of the project is $71.8 million, and it is being designed to become a focal point for year-round activity in the community.

The fieldhouse will be approximately 118,000 sq. ft. and include an artificial turf field for a range of sports, viewing areas, dressing rooms, and washroom facilities.

The library will include public meeting rooms, open seating areas, and a children’s library.

ā€œAs our city expands and continues to welcome new Calgarians, the need for additional library and recreation spaces has reached a critical point,ā€ said Mayor Jyoti Gondek in a news release. ā€œThe Belmont Fieldhouse and Library reflects our commitment to building vibrant, inclusive communities for all Calgarians.ā€

According to the City of Calgary website, this project also supports the Library Services plan and budget 2023-2026 initiative to increase quality of life for Calgarians by building four new library service locations by the end of 2026.

Construction has recently begun on the project, and it is expected to open in 2027.
