Construction ramps up in the Culture and Entertainment District and here's what to expect

Construction season has officially arrived in the Culture + Entertainment District (The C+E), bringing road closures to the busy downtown Calgary area.
According to the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), Calgarians can expect temporary lane reductions and street closures as work advances on several projects throughout the district, like the Autograph Collection Hotel on Stampede Park and Scotia Place.
“To support the major development projects underway in The C+E, CMLC is delivering a series of infrastructure improvements to seamlessly integrate Scotia Place into the district, and to improve multi-modal connectivity and capacity across The C+E,” CMLC said in a release.
Work will impact several key routes across the district, including 14th Avenue SE, which will see a full closure beginning on March 30. The road will reopen for the 2026 Calgary Stampede and then will close again until its expected completion in Fall 2026.

Additional lane reductions and closures are also expected later in 2026 on 5A Street SE and Flore Ladue Parade. Work on the 6th Street SE underpass will also continue throughout 2026 and 2027. CMLC says Calgarians can expect various lane and access restrictions in the area.
“We know that construction of this nature is disruptive, but we are confident that The C+E will continue to be an exceptional destination for Calgarians and tourists alike, through construction and beyond.”
The projects are aimed at supporting the long-term redevelopment of the area that already has $2 billion in city-building projects completed or underway.
