Construction moving ahead on a major Calgary park redevelopment
A major Calgary park redevelopment has reached its next phase, with construction moving forward on several new amenities.
Located in southwest Calgary, Richmond Green Park has been undergoing a multi-phase redevelopment, with phase two of the project now underway.
In a July 2026 update from the City of Calgary, the city confirmed construction on Phase 2A began in May 2026 on the park’s existing tennis courts, which will be transformed into 16 dedicated pickleball courts.
Parking lot and playground upgrades are also currently underway, with the park’s existing playground set to be replaced with a new destination playground as part of the redevelopment.

As construction continues throughout the summer, the next addition to the redevelopment is set to begin in July with the construction of a new cricket batting cage located between the pickleball courts and the baseball diamond.
Phase 2B is expected to begin in September, which will include pathway additions and connections, a new picnic area, stormwater management improvements, and upgrades to the disc golf area.
The redevelopment of Richmond Green Park began after the closure of the former golf course in 2019. Since then, portions of the park have been repurposed, including the conversion of the former golf course into a temporary disc golf course, and a 5.5-acre parcel of land was sold in 2024 to fund improvements.

Major steps of the project have been in the works since the spring of 2025, when detailed design concepts and feasibility studies were completed. Spring 2025 also included phase one of construction when the City’s former Operations Workplace Centre was demolished, opening up an additional 10 acres of land to the park.
Phase three of construction is set to begin in 2027 and will see amenities added to the park to support cycling.
According to the City of Calgary, construction on the park is anticipated to wrap up in the spring of 2028.
