Walk for Arthritis

Participants celebrate at the end of the 2018 Walk for Arthritis In Vancouver/Arthritis Society

Seek the Peak 2019

What: Think you’ve got what it takes to climb 4,100 feet. Whether you’re a seasoned Grouse Grind veteran or just willing to try anything out for a good cause, the 15th annual Seek the Peak is for you. Racers who wish to test their fitness, stamina, and mental toughness can either tackle the race on their own or split up the 13 km race amongst a team.

Britannia Mine Museum

What: More than just a museum, the Britannia Mine Museum is a hub of activities for all ages and interests. Located along the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway on the way to Whistler, the museum provides an authentic and unique look at British Columbia’s rich mining history.

This summer, visitors can look forward to the launch of the museum’s new live-action experience, BOOM!. The multi-sensory, special-effects-filled adventure, which will have its grand opening on June 1 and 2, will bring the 1920s Mill building thundering back to life. Visitors can also enjoy a truly Canadian experience in The Underground, where you will board an underground train and ride into an authentic mining tunnel. While inside, experience live mining machinery demonstrations and discover what life for a miner was really like in the 1920s, including a taste of total darkness.

Public Disco Laneway Series 2019

What: Vancouver’s Public Disco pop-up events will make its return this summer, transforming outdoor spaces into daytime dance parties. The 2019 Laneway Series is an all-ages summer concert series in partnership with Creative BC, Downtown Vancouver, FACTOR, and Granville Island Brewing. The Disco will be most similar to past events held by the group, showcasing feel-good music from up-and-coming artists and curated dance performances. The Laneway Cabaret will feature live music acts ranging from folk to hip hop, with DJs throughout the day.

West Vancouver Bridge Festival

What: West Vancouver’s long-standing Community Day is being transformed into Bridge Festival —  a two-day multicultural event taking place on May 31 and June 1 at Ambleside Park. This new festival will include interactive cultural pavilions, live musical performances, a parade, delicious food from around the world, and much more.

There will be two full evenings of free concerts at the main stage in Ambleside Park, a number of food trucks, and showcases of culture by West Vancouver residents who will share the customs and traditions of their diverse ethnic identities.

House of Vans — Vancouver

The Girls Are Coming!

What: The Girls Are Coming!: A visual voyage of Bride Ship Tynemouth. As they once did off Vancouver Island a century and a half ago, sails appeared in Tracy McMenemy’s vision of an exhibition. Her research on the Bride Ship Tynemouth and the journey of its young passengers inspired her own journey. Her departure point was a single bride’s dress. Dog Days of Summer at Hastings Racecourse

Sean Devlin Live Comedy Album Recording

Lafarge Lake Annual Free Fishing Day

What: A free family-friendly day of fishy fun and prizes during BC’s free fishing weekend – when anglers can fish BC’s waters without a licence. Thursday Artist Talk: Doreen Brust Johnson, “A Dream is to Write”

What: Canadian historical fiction novelist Doreen Brust Johnson tells her story of writing novels while having no formal education beyond grade eleven. She will take you through her early years growing up on a small farm in Saskatchewan to where she is now: a published author with three books titled Walking Barefoot in my ShoesSounds in My Shadow, and Momma, Momma, the Preacher’s Comin’.  In addition to sharing her writing journey and how she navigated the publishing world, Doreen will tell stories of northern prairie life, making history come alive. Copies of her books will be available to purchase at the talk.

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Season Finale: Zarathustra

What: As the VSO’s 100th anniversary season draws to a close, Maestro Otto Tausk celebrates the VSO centenary in a concert that looks to the past, present, and future: Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture was the very first piece performed by the VSO in January of 1919; the North American première of renowned Dutch composer Michel van der Aa’s Concerto for Violin and Cello is performed by VSO Concertmaster Nicholas Wright and Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh; and also sprach Zarathustra, a grand orchestral showpiece that shines a light on the talents of the incredible musicians of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

What: Montreal’s electro-funk duo Chromeo are coming to Vancouver with a live band this summer. Special guests will be joining the pair who were recently nominated for the 2019 Juno for Group of the Year award. What: This summer, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan will be coming to Vancouver for a concert as part of the 34th annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
