Summer fun has taken over Calgary and the new season is full of great events to enjoy. From Calgary Stampede to Fringe Festival, here are 126 events you need to check out around the city.

5K Foam Fest Alberta 2019

What: The 5K Foam Fest features some super exciting obstacles to get over, under, and around, including the world’s largest inflatable waterslide. Combine these obstacles with 2.5 million cubic feet of foam that is pumped out at each event, and chances are you’ll be enjoying an epic summer day.

This year, the event takes place just outside of Calgary in Red Deer and foamy runners will get to enjoy live DJs and a vendor village. If you miss out on the Red Deer event, the race will also visit Leduc and Medicine Hat — it may be a somewhat longer road trip, but that’s all part of the fun anyway. And it’s all for a good cause. The family fun event supports the Make A Wish Foundation.

Sylvan Lake Aqua Splash

What: The Sylvan Lake Aqua Splash is a giant inflatable obstacle course big enough for adults to jump around on. The gigantic floating fortress features a 15-foot tower, a climbing wall, a launch bag, a trapeze swing, and basically anything else you could ever imagine. Located, as the name suggests, on Sylvan Lake, the aqua park can be found just west of Red Deer, meaning that it is only an hour and a half drive from Calgary for a full day of fun on the lake.

Parks Canada – Free Admission for Canada Day

What: Parks Canada is offering free admission to all of its national parks and historic sites this July 1. Whether you live near one of these beautiful destinations, or you’re up for a little road trip, you’re going to want to clear your calendars this Canada day and get exploring. And even though admission to these parks is only free on Canada Day, if you’re 17 and under, you can visit all Parks Canada locations for free, any time of the year.

Canada Day in Banff and Lake Louise

What: Come celebrate Canada’s birthday with activities happening in and around Banff and Lake Louise. In Banff, begin your day with public art outside the Whyte Museum before taking in the famous Canada Day Parade down Banff Avenue beginning at 11:30 am. Explore family-friendly activities in Central Park and at the Banff Secondary High School field, and finish your day with a dazzling pyrotechnic show. In Lake Louise, start your day by feasting at the annual pancake breakfast hosted by the Lake Louise Fire Department. Be sure to catch the flag raising and national anthem at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, before enjoying the parade on Village Road. The day is full of performances and family activities on the lawns of the Lake Louise Sport and Recreation centre, including a BBQ lunch.

Cyclepalooza

What: Join this community-driven bicycle festival for a week full of cycling festivities. Take part in the 2nd Annual Warrior Ride, Spoke and Word, Pedal & Paint and more events.

Country Kickback

What: Learn how the West once was! Fascinating demonstrations include threshing and baling with steam-powered machinery, wheat grinding, sheep shearing, and more. Attendees can also pet the friendly farm critters provided by Butterfield Acres, try making rope, or branding a barn board and take home a souvenir. Finally, get ready for some hand-clapping, foot-stopping fun with live entertainment.

Calgary Outdoor Yoga

Banff Gondola

What: Head to the summit for an unreal view above the treetops and a birds-eye view of six different mountain ranges, while sipping on coffee or a refreshing glass of wine. Then get hands-on in the world-class interpretive centre and theatre.

What’s up with Bow Habitat Station

What: Explore Alberta’s wildlife and natural spaces on the first Friday of the month. Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre to discover the wildlife that make their home right here in Calgary! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to discover how wildlife has adapted to city life with special guests from Alberta Parks. Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society will be hosting an investigation station all about some furry and feathered friends you might find in our city. Hands-on activities are designed for learners ages two and up.

Make the Leaf 2019

What: Calgarians are invited to help make the world’s largest human maple leaf and take the title from Vancouver on Labour Day weekend. The event, called Make the Leaf, will attempt to break the current record on the grounds of Fort Calgary on Saturday, August 31.

Tickets cost $35, buying you lunch and a commemorative t-shirt. Early bird tickets for $30 will be available until July 31. The money fundraised for this event will go towards the non-profit BRAVE, an organization that helps to educate children on how to prevent being recruited for trafficking.

Beakerhead

Ball Pit Party

What: First introduced in Australia, the party brings along 500,000 balls, reminiscent of those brightly coloured oceans in McDonald’s play places. In addition to the playful environment, the party will be serving up all your favourite cocktails from Martinis to Seven Grand and Tiki-Tis to Moscow Mules. The exact date and location are yet to be confirmed, but you can sign up here to keep tabs on the details and get first dibs on tickets once they’re released.

Heritage Park Summer Season

What: Enjoy a different experience every day at Calgary’s Heritage Park Historical Village. Take a tour back in time on a horse-drawn wagon ride, play traditional Aboriginal games in the First Nations’ Encampment and pick up a freshly baked cheese bun from the Alberta Bakery. Plus S.S. Moyie Paddlewheeler will once again sail the Glenmore Reservoir this summer, which means the return of the much-loved Captain’s Cruises.

Market Collective Summer Takeover at St. Louis

What: Market Collective will be setting up a summer long activation at the St. Louis hotel in East Village. There will be programming with food trucks, art installations, DJs, and musicians. There will also be an urban basketball court outside. Some artists will rotate on a monthly basis.

The Grandstand Show: Trailblazer

What: The theme of the 2019 Grandstand show will be “Trailblazer,” taking inspiration from the travelling shows of the early 20th century yet being performed on the most technologically advanced outdoor stage in the world.

The entire show will be led by show master Onalea, who will be joined by Calgary’s own travelling band of musical pirates, the Polyjesters. Music, acrobatics, and dance will all come together for a fiery tribute to the South American cowboy. The 2019 show will also include a participatory pre-show for all in attendance, thanks to this year’s title sponsor, Bell Canada.

HANSON

What: Known for their hit “Mmmbop,” HANSON has been performing as a group for a whopping 26 years. The band formed when Isaac, Taylor, and Zack Hanson were only 11, nine, and six respectively. The group is currently celebrating a landmark year, launching the “Middle Of Everywhere 25th Anniversary World Tour” including some new songs alongside their biggest singles. The group is also set to release a greatest hits album in commemoration of the tour.

What: The Cowboys Music Festival has announced the entertainment they’re bringing to town for the Stampede, and this year’s lineup is already stacked. Roundup Music Fest 2019

What: Calgary is set to host the ultimate outdoor festival of the summer with Roundup Music Fest. 2019 Oxford Stomp

What: Top-selling Canadian artist of all time Bryan Adams will be rocking the stage in Calgary on July 12, for the 2019 Oxford Stomp. Rocking the stage with 15-time Grammy nominee Bryan Adams will be 13-time Juno Award nominee Amanda Marshall and Canada’s power-pop legends Odds. What: Country music duo Sugarland will be landing in YYC this summer. Georgia natives Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush will be performing as part of the 2019 Calgary Stampede’s Virgin Mobile Stampede Concert Series, taking to the stage at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, July 13.

Sugarland was first created in 2002, achieving international fame with hits like “Stuck Like Glue,” “Stay,” and “Babe.” The duo went on a six-year hiatus, returning to the limelight with their newest album BIGGER.

Slash feat Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators Calgary concert

What: Legendary guitarist Slash will be at the Grey Eagle Event Theatre on Sunday, July 21 alongside Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators for a show like no other. Slash, who had been the lead guitarist for the band Guns N’ Roses, co-created a band called Velvet Revolver in the 2000s.

The guitarist released his debut solo album in 2010 featuring many famous musicians including Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, and Adam Levine. In 2016 he reunited with Guns N’ Roses to headline Coachella Music Festival and play other shows around the world. As of last year, Slash began touring with his band Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.
