Downtown Vancouver's latest spot for cheap eats has just opened

Dec 2 2025, 7:51 pm

After announcing the new location in October, Onigiri Ya has opened the doors to its latest location on Robson, meaning downtown Vancouver just got another spot for an affordable lunch.

Here, customers can expect a wide array of onigiri options, with some starting at just $2.99 (plus, folks who buy three onigiri can get 10 per cent off their bill).

“Just like our Broadway location, this will be a grab-and-go concept — perfect for the busy downtown crowd looking for an affordable, quick, and delicious lunch option,” previously shared Onigiri Ya.

Additionally, you’ll find a selection of snacks and even warm food options like pork curry.

The concept comes from the same team as Maruhachi Ra-men. Onigiri Ya’s Broadway location, which opened in August 2024, originally operated in the company’s sister ramen joint, Menya Juémon, before permanently taking over the space.

Since then, Onigiri Ya has also opened a dine-in concept inside Maruhachi Gaiden, where it serves unique flavours you can’t find at its grab-and-go concept. One of these is its seared cheese onigiri, an ooey-gooey creation with whatever filling you desire.

Currently, during its soft opening, Onigiri Ya Robson operates Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with business hours to be extended later on.

In recent years, this area around Vancouver’s Public Library has seen plenty of additions to its dining scene, including ramen restaurants, an automated dumpling shop, and many sandwich purveyors like Pressato and Dante Italian Sandwich.
