Downtown Edmonton ice cream shop announces closure, adding to growing list
Downtown Edmonton’s restaurant scene continues to take hits, with DRTY Ice Cream becoming the latest business to announce it’s closing its downtown location
Founded in 2020 by Abby Ulanimo as a side hustle while working as an accountant, DRTY Ice Cream has built a following with its desserts inspired by Filipino sorbetes, a popular street food in the Philippines.
DRTY Ice Cream opened its downtown outpost inside Foosh in January, but on Wednesday announced it would be shutting the location down.
In a post shared on social media, the business cited a combination of factors for the closure.

“With the crazy rain, it was hard enough to attract folks to make the trek across the river. But add in the heavy construction, random road closures, expensive parking, and little to no foot traffic ā our little ice cream window didn’t stand a chance.”
The shop thanked customers who visited the downtown location, as well as Foosh for hosting the pop-up. It also confirmed that it will continue operating as usual from its Station Park location on Whyte Avenue.

The announcement is the latest in a growing list of downtown and adjacent restaurants and cafe closures in recent weeks. Wilfred’s in the Brewery District recently announced it would be closing, while BĆ¼ndokĀ revealed earlier this week that it will also shutter.
Greta, Kb&co, and Rhubarb CafƩ have all announced closures recently as well.
