Popular Edmonton arcade bar announces closure with week-long drink specials

Greta has just announced the upcoming closure of its downtown Edmonton location amidst a wave of closures in the area.

From Khazana to Kb&co, the closures in downtown Edmonton seem to be ramping up daily. This time, we’re hearing from Greta, one of the staple bars in the downtown core, which originally opened over six years ago in 2019.

This spot came to Edmonton in the peak era of arcade bars. With games, drinks, and a cool atmosphere, it was no shock when this place quickly filled up on evenings and weekends with great energy.

The closure comes from difficulties operating downtown, which has repeatedly been the answer to many restaurants’ sudden closures. Construction has played a major part in this, with traffic in the downtown core continuously getting more and more difficult to maneuver.

Now, the bar will be staying open for a little less than a week, officially closing its doors after Sunday, July 26, after a party to remember.

For this entire week, Greta will be handing out $3.50 happy hour drinks every day, all day. Not to mention, they’ll be saying goodbye with a huge celebration on Sunday, so if you’re looking to send off this beauty, we’ll see you there. It’s going to be a send-off perfectly fitting for the vibrant spot.

“As bittersweet as this goodbye is, we’d love to spend these final 10 days doing what we do best—making memories together,” announced the team on Instagram. “Come raise a glass with us, enjoy Happy Hour all week long, and help us celebrate everything GRETA is.”

Let’s pray this is one of the last downtown closures we’ll see in the next little bit. With everything up and leaving, hopefully there are still some restaurants and bars left in the area by the time the year ends.
