Beloved Edmonton restaurant closes original downtown location after 10 years

A longtime Edmonton restaurant has closed the doors to its original downtown location after a decade in business.
Kb&co, the casual plant-based chain known for its smoothies, bowls, sandwiches, and focus on organic ingredients, has closed its 104th Street location.
Owner Kristina Botelho shared the news in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday, writing that the downtown shop had been “where Kb&co was born,” and the place where the restaurant’s dream first became a reality.
“From the depths of my heart, I’m sharing that today we closed the original kb&co location after 10 years in the heart of downtown Edmonton,” the post reads.
Botelho said the restaurant’s lease had come to an end, but explained that the decision was not just about the lease.

“For the last six years, downtown has faced challenge after challenge,” she wrote, pointing to construction, reduced foot traffic, changing work patterns after COVID, safety concerns, and other obstacles that made operating in the area increasingly difficult.
She also spoke about the financial strain many small businesses have continued to face since the pandemic, noting that while loans, grants, and government support helped businesses survive the immediate crisis, the recovery has taken much longer than many expected.

Botelho thanked staff, regulars, and customers who supported the downtown location over the years, saying the shop had been home to friendships, conversations, and a community built across the counter.
“This little store⦠this was my baby,” she wrote.
The closure does not mark the end of Kb&co. You can still find those refreshing smoothies and nourishing grain bowls at its other locations in Windermere, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park.
