5 Vancouver restaurants that have recently closed

Vancouver’s restaurant scene can be fickle, and unfortunately, we’ve recently lost some fan favourites.

From major B.C. based chains to Canadian fast-food joints, here are five restaurants in and around Vancouver that have closed.

Odd Burger Vancouver

After less than two years in the city, vegan fast-food chain Odd Burger has shared that it will be shuttering its only Vancouver location.

“It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce that Odd Burger Vancouver will be closing its doors,” wrote the restaurant on Facebook.

As for the reason for the closure, the owners of the location shared, “The final blow came when head office made the decision to discontinue the in-house products that were such an important part of what we believed in and what we signed on for. It changed the direction of the business in a way that no longer aligned with the vision we had when we opened our doors.”

Green Lettuce Vancouver

“To our Vancouver community, thank you for the last 27 years! Our Vancouver location is now closed, and please continue visiting us at our Surrey location,” wrote the restaurant on its website.

Located at 1949 Kingsway, the eatery was best known for its wide selection of Indian-style Chinese food. Owners Winston and Peter opened the restaurant in 1999, and since then, it has acquired a very loyal following, including the likes of local celebrity chef Vikram Vij.

Kosoo Cardero

After an 11-year run, Kosoo Cardero has closed its doors.

“Since opening our doors in 2015, we have had the privilege of serving our community, sharing countless meals, celebrations, and unforgettable memories with all of you. None of this would have been possible without your continued love and support,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram.

Kosoo is best known for its modern Korean offerings, including bibimbap, tteok-bokki, japchae, and more. The restaurant also operates a Korean BBQ-focused location in Coquitlam and another outpost in Robson, which the restaurant is encouraging folks to visit to enjoy their favourite dishes.

White Spot Surrey (Central City)

White Spot has closed another Metro Vancouver restaurant, this time at Surrey’s Central City.

While an announcement has yet to be made online, a member of staff at the store confirmed the news to Dished over the phone, adding that its final day was July 12.

As for the reason for the closure, the member of staff said that it was ultimately decided by White Spot’s head office.

After an approximate five-year run, Bruno in Richmond has announced it has permanently closed.

“We’re truly grateful for every visit, every celebration, and every memory shared with us,” wrote the restaurant. “Thank you for your support and for making Bruno such a special place.”

Bruno was located inside the Versante Hotel, which is situated just beside the Richmond Night Market’s current site. The 6,000 sq. ft. restaurant seated 130 people and was best known for its assortment of dishes featuring B.C. ingredients.

The restaurant also shared that it hopes folks will continue to visit the team at its sister restaurant, Cask Whisky Vault, an intimate whisky lounge with Izakaya-inspired cuisine.
