Three Vancouver bars ranked among North America’s best places to grab a drink

Whether they’re much-loved local watering holes or tucked-away speakeasies, Vancouver is home to some great bars, and it’s not just the locals who are taking notice.
Every year, North America’s 50 Best Bars releases a list of some of the most exciting spots, spotlighting the rich and diverse cocktail culture across the region. In addition to this prestigious list, it also releases its top 51 to 100 bars across North America, and this year, we’ve got a sneak peek of which bars made that extended list.
Like the 1 to 50 ranking, North America’s 50 Best Bars said its list is “the result of the votes cast by the voting Academy, which is comprised of more than 300 independent cocktail experts, renowned bartenders, educators, and drink writers from across the region.”
This year, three Vancouver bars landed on the extended list.
Laowai, located at 251 E Georgia St., landed 67th on the list. This hidden bar can be entered via a freezer door in sister spot BLND TGER by asking for a #7, and is best known for its all-star lineup of cocktails, dumplings, and more! In 2022, it was named the best new bar in Canada.
Prophecy landed at number 53 on the list. Opened last year, this cocktail bar is located under Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia through the signature wooden door (if you know, you know) on the Howe Street side.
The cocktail menu here draws inspiration from “writers, poets, musicians, and artists.” Every patron’s journey will be guided by the destination’s Cocktail Book, which offers sips in four palate preferences: Spirituous, Refreshing, Herbaceous, or Lush.

And finally, Meo, which opened last year at 265 E. Pender St. by the folks behind Michelin-starred Kissa Tanto and the fantastic Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie, landed at number 92 on the list.
The ’70s-inspired cocktail bar features inventive cocktails and punchy small plates, in a setting with intimate seating, a vintage jukebox, soft plush fabrics, drapery, and groovy carpet.
