Two-time Food Network Champion announces reopening of Burnaby bakery

We and the Burnaby community were heartbroken when Hollie Fraser, owner of Punk Rock Pastries, shared the news that the much-loved bakery would be closing its doors. Now, just two months later, Fraser announced Punk Rock Pastries would be reopening in the same space.

Dished reached out to Fraser for some more information on the return of Punk Rock Pastries and what customers can expect from the revival.

Fraser shared that the reason for the initial closure was due to mental health issues and her needing a break. “Small business owners push themselves to the absolute bone, and I honestly killed myself for this bakery,” said Fraser.

So, she took a month off and returned to Australia. During her trip, she visited all of her favourite bakeries and got her love for baking back.

“Helps that my dad is also a pastry chef and got me back to my roots,” said Fraser.

Now that Fraser is back in Burnaby, she’s reviving Punk Rock Pastries. However, things might look a bit different than before. Namely, its signature NSFW baked goods will no longer be available in-store but rather by preorder online.

“I decided to put them online mostly because we won’t have room for them in-store,” said Fraser. “I also got so sick of all the negativity. I want my bakery to be a positive, fun place that makes you smile and fills your sweet tooth.”

So, what will be available at Punk Rock Pastries? In her announcement video, Fraser said, “We are going to be all about the most tastiest goddamn products you’ve ever put in your mouth.” There will also be a new focus on Aussie treats.

Examples include stuffed finger buns, which Fraser explained are sweet bread filled with custard topped with icing and coconut alongside other goodies like lamingtons and vegemite cheesy bread. Plus, its fan-favourite crazy brownies and stuffed cookies will also be making a return.

“I’m really excited to get back to my roots and make some killer treats,” concluded Fraser.

In addition to her work at Punk Rock Pastries, Fraser is also a two-time Food Network champion who most recently won the 2023 Halloween Baking Championship.

Punk Rock Pastries reopens on May 1. But those who are eager to see what Fraser is cooking are invited to visit on April 26 for an open house. Be sure to check out Punk Rock Pastries’ Instagram for more updates.
