The restaurant industry is constantly changing, and unfortunately, we’ve suffered some casualties this month.

From longstanding pasta joints to specialty grocers, here’s your list of notable restaurant closures this April.

Closed

Meinhardt Downtown Pacific Centre

An employee from Meinhardt Fine Foods confirmed that the grocery store had closed its Pacific Centre, with its final day being March 31.

For those unfamiliar, Meinhardt has been serving the Vancouver community since 1997 at its first location in South Granville. In 2012, the store was acquired by Buy-Low Foods LP, and in 2015, it expanded to its second location in the heart of downtown Vancouver, at Pacific Centre. But don’t worry, its South Granville spot at 3002 Granville St. is still up and running.

However, we have received word that the Japanese grocery store Aburi Market plans to open in its place.

Heirs Pears

Signs on the windows of Heirs Pears indicate that the restaurant closed on February 25, 2025, citing an increase in rent and food and goods costs as the reason for the closure.

“We thank you for your love and support over the years — we will cherish the great memories,” added the restaurant.

Additionally, a notice of seizure and man in possession was posted on the restaurant windows, which states a total of $43,805.85 is owed, which has been repaid in the form of all the contents in the unit.

Mahony’s Tavern False Creek

Mahony’s Tavern confirmed to Dished that it will be closing the doors to its False Creek location. However, we still have time with the location, and the new owners of the restaurant are hosting a pop-up patio experience called The Bae Side.

Mahony’s will operate until October 2025, when it will begin major renovations to become a new bohemian-inspired concept called Mishree on the Water. This concept is brought to us by Mishree Restaurant Concepts, which operates multiple restaurants like Tandoori Flame and Happy Singh Eats, to name just a few, and is expected to open spring 2026.

Zefferelli’s Spaghetti Joint

Zefferelli’s Spaghetti Joint told Dished that it would be closing its doors after this May long weekend.

“In 1989, I could not have imagined writing this goodbye letter,” wrote Alberto Lemmo, owner of Zefferelli’s.

“There are precious few independently owner restaurants that get a 35-year run. It’s humbling and astounding to me,” he added.

Located on the second floor of 1136 Robson St., Vancouver, the restaurant is best known for its cozy and charming atmosphere alongside its Italian dishes and pastas.

Ramen One shared the news on Instagram that its final day would be on Sunday, May 18.

“After much thought and a difficult decision, we have made the choice to close Ramen One,” said the restaurant.

Ramen One is Vancouver’s first private dining experience, and it opened its doors in March 2024. When it opened, it was best known for its $10 ramen deal. At the start of 2025, Ramen One shared it would have to adjust its menu prices due to “rising food costs.”

Fresh Ideas Start Here

Fresh Ideas Start Here (F.I.S.H.) has announced that it will be closing the doors to its brick-and-mortar location and moving to an online-only model, with its final day being April 30.

“We’re excited for what’s to come for Fresh Ideas Start Here,” said Jenice Yu, co-owner of F.I.S.H. “I remember when we first opened in Market Crossing, we were just one of few stores. And now, the community has flourished and grown. We’ve had 17 incredible years at our Burnaby shop and are so grateful for our loyal customers.”

St. Regis Bar and Grill

St. Regis Bar and Grill shared the news of its closing on Instagram, thanking its loyal customers for their support over the years.

“Your patronage has meant the world to us,” said St. Regis. “We’ll forever cherish the memories made here.”

St. Regis Bar and Grill is located inside the St. Regis Hotel, which was built in 1913. It’s best known as a destination for sports fans and serves a variety of handhelds and share plates.

Missing Chopsticks

Missing Chopsticks said the reason for the closure was that Chef Toby is returning to care for his family abroad and that the restaurant has not found the right candidate to pass the torch to.

“To our peers, thank you for inspiring us and pushing the scene forward. To our guests, thank you for giving this radical concept a try and create lasting memories together. We have had the blessing to now call some of you our dear friends and we are thankful for that,” added Missing Chopsticks.

Its final day is May 4.
