Let’s Hear It For Yaletown, curated by Vancity Hot Jazz Society

What: Let’s Hear It For Yaletown, a vibrant jazz festival curated by Vancity Hot Jazz Society and hosted by Yaletown Business Improvement Association (BIA), will be taking over Bill Curtis Square from Monday, June 24 to Friday, June 28.

This is your chance to hear Canadian hot jazz bands perform live during your lunch break (12 to 2 pm) or after work (5 to 7:30 pm), right in the heart of Yaletown. There’s also going to be free swing dance lessons taking place so you can hone your two-step skills in between live jazz sessions.

Free Music Workshops – TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival

What: The Jazz Festival has lots of opportunities to learn more about music, musicians, techniques, and the artistic process through its carefully curated series of free workshops. Workshops take place from June 24 to 28 at Tom Lee Music at 728 Granville Street at 1 pm daily. Workshops include Montreal-based guitarist Vicky Mettler, NY pianist Angelica Sanchez, NY guitarist Ava Mendoza, NY pianist and vocalist Patricia Barber, and London-based pianist Alexander Hawkins.

Later that week, the action moves the Roundhouse Community Art and Recreation Centre, with Workshops at the studio beginning at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 29 and continuing Sunday, June 30. Artists include Ingrid Laubrock, Tomas Fujiwara, Jeff Younger, Malcolm Goldstein, Keir Neuringer, and member of In Love With.

Vancouver Negroni Week 2019

What: Vancouver Negroni Week 2019 officially kicks off June 24 and runs until June 30, which means bars around Canada will be celebrating the classic cocktail while raising money for some charities at the same time. There are 73 Vancouver bars and restaurants participating in this year’s celebratory week.

This event takes place worldwide, where establishments around the globe donate a portion of the sales of Negroni cocktails and related items to over 40 charities. Negroni Week first launched in 2013 and it has raised well over $1 million since.

Jesse – an ASL opera workshop reading

What: Jesse – An ASL Opera is a workshop reading by Landon Krentz, Heather Molloy & Paula Weber resulting from a two-week experimental process that gathered Deaf and Hearing artists to explore how poetry, music, English and ASL intersect. What: The Chefs’ Table Society of BC, in partnership with the Yaletown BIA, is hosting the event Chef Meets Truck in Yaletown at the intersection of Hamilton and Nelson. The event will run from 6:30pm-9:00pm and consists of Vancouver restaurant chefs hopping on board local food trucks to serve up the foodie event of the season. Tickets include food from the participating food trucks, as well as tastings of wine and beer. Britannia Mine Museum

What: More than just a museum, the Britannia Mine Museum is a hub of activities for all ages and interests. Located along the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway on the way to Whistler, the museum provides an authentic and unique look at British Columbia’s rich mining history.

This summer, visitors can look forward to the launch of the museum’s new live-action experience, BOOM!. The multi-sensory, special-effects-filled adventure, which will have its grand opening on June 1 and 2, will bring the 1920s Mill building thundering back to life. Visitors can also enjoy a truly Canadian experience in The Underground, where you will board an underground train and ride into an authentic mining tunnel. While inside, experience live mining machinery demonstrations and discover what life for a miner was really like in the 1920s, including a taste of total darkness.
