Free Outdoor Movies in Stanley Park – Finding Nemo

What: One of the most popular summertime events in the city is back as free outdoor movies return to Stanley Park this summer. The Evo Summer Cinema Series on August 6 features Finding Nemo on a four-story inflatable movie screen. Be there before dusk and take part in the many fun pre-show activities, including games, prizes, and giveaways, as well as the weekly offering of food truck fare and classic movie treats.

Please bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs and, since it’s a family-friendly event, smoking or alcohol is not permitted. Moviegoers are encouraged to walk, take transit, or bike to Stanley Park for the shows  – there will be a bike valet service offered on site each night too.

Super Snag x VMF

Downtown Vancouver BIA’s free outdoor movie series (Michael Kossey)

What: Vancouver’s free outdoor movie series in downtown at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza) is screening Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) on August 7. Fresh Air Cinema’s large four-storey inflatable screen will pop up, creating the perfect urban environment to take in a flick surrounded by the concrete jungle — just be sure to bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets.

Hosted by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, each night will have special activations for the public to enjoy, including photo booths, light displays, food trucks, and more.

Mumford and Sons

What: British band Mumford and Sons are coming to Vancouver in August. The band is set to take the stage at BC Place on August 7, and the show will feature special guests, Portugal.The Man.

Marking 10 years since Mumford & Sons made their debut, the new music follows 2015’s Wilder Mind, which debuted at No. 1 in the US, UK, Australia Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway and, most recently, 2016’s collaborative Johannesburg mini album. Previous LPs include 2012’s Babel, which was awarded the 2013 Grammy for Album of the Year, and their 2009 debut, Sigh No More.

What: The Drive-In Movie Series returns to Lansdowne Centre for its fourth year, presented by Fresh Air Cinema. Enjoy Aquaman on August 7 on the outdoor screen. Take a drive and cuddle up, or bring a blanket and lawn chair and settle in. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis (first 200 vehicles), and the movie audio will be broadcast over FM radio. Waste to Wonder Exhibit 2019

Orca (Waste to Wonder)

What: The Waste to Wonder exhibit consists of five life-size sculptures of Canadian at-risk wildlife — the narwhal, orca, bison, grizzly, and caribou — each of them made from upcycled flip flops. More than 6,500 flip flops in total were used to make the sculptures, requiring more than 2,500 hours of work by more than two dozen artists. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a selfie station with an iconic Canadian beaver sculpture, artist demo / meet & greet, upcycle bracelet workshops, upcycle Kiehl’s workshop, plastics recycling drives, contest giveaways, and more.

During the exhibit, each sculpture will be available for purchase through an online auction, starting at a minimum bid of $5,000. All proceeds will be donated to Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Paint in the Park with Opus

What: A fun-for-all-ages outdoor painting challenge hosted by Vancouver Mural Festival and Opus. VMF will provide canvas panels from Opus, so all you have to do is bring your own art supplies. Acrylics or oils, watercolour or pencil, collage or assemblage – all are welcome. All participants who exhibit their finished piece at this event will be entered to win a prize.

Le Dîner en Blanc Vancouver 2019

What: Vancouver’s legendary all-white-everything pop-up dinner party is returning for its eighth annual run this summer. As per tradition, the location will not be revealed until the day of the event (which happens rain or shine). The elegant affair sees white-clad diners enjoying eats and drinks al fresco in some of the city’s most scenic locations. The event was created 31 years ago in Paris, and still carries on a set of traditions and rules that must be followed: you have to wear white and you must bring a table, chairs, and a tablecloth (all white of course).
