Vancouver bakery and cafe makes victorious return with stunning new waterfront location

In May 2024, we were heartbroken when we heard the news that Small Victory would be closing the doors to its Yaletown location after over a decade. But during this closure, the cafe shared that this wouldn’t be a permanent goodbye and that the team was looking for a new spot in Yaletown.
We’ve been waiting on pins and needles ever since, but thankfully, the day has almost come for Small Victory to make its long-awaited return to Yaletown.
Dished got a sneak peek inside the new location ahead of its opening and had the chance to speak with the CEO and co-founder of Small Victory, Afshan Nathoo.
“Yaletown is home for us; it’s where we started the brand,” said Nathoo. “Yaletown has a very strong sense of community, a perfect place for a neighbourhood bakery.”

Nathoo added that it was important for them to return to the community for all the regular customers who have continued to come to Small Victory over the years.
As for the design of the new location, Nathoo said that it was marine-inspired, from the countertops to the light fixtures.
“This space reflects us on the waterfront in Vancouver and a little bit about the history of this neighbourhood,” said Nathoo.

Like many other Small Victory locations, this spot was designed by &Daughters and made to reflect the natural rhythm of ocean tides and the craftsmanship of baking and coffee.
During our visit, Small Victory was still putting the final touches on the space. However, once finished, this location will feature approximately 60 seats, 40 inside and 20 out front.

As for the food and drink side of things, Small Victory will be sticking to what it knows best.
“We’ve got some new breads in the lineup, so we’re excited to introduce those to our Yaletown customers, but we’re going to keep it classic, true to who we are, quality always first,” said Nathoo.
That means there are plenty more delicious and flaky croissants in Small Victory’s future, in addition to its stellar lineup of bread, coffee, tea, and brunch options.

So what’s next for Small Victory? After this location, it has its eye set on a new spot opening in North Vancouver for around the same time in 2026. Those who can’t wait until its Yaletown spot reopens can also visit its locations in Mount Pleasant, South Granville, and the Amazing Brentwood.
Small Victory Yaletown opens its doors on Monday, April 7.
