Metro Vancouver's favourite manga cafe is officially open again and people are excited

It’s not every day that a restaurant announces it will be reopening after it closed its doors, but thankfully, one of Metro Vancouver’s only manga cafes has shared the news that it will be making its return.
“Starting this Friday, we’re dipping our toes back in with weekend hours,” said Ki Cafe on Instagram.
For those unfamiliar, Ki Cafe is a Japanese-inspired cafe thatās home to a giant wall filled with manga for people to enjoy during their visit. It is also known for its savoury and dessert waffles, homestyle meals like omurice, and bubble tea.
Back in December 2024, Ki shared the news that it would indefinitely be closing its doors, citing “economic challenges” as the reason for the closure.
“While this decision comes as a result of the economic challenges we are facing, this closure presents an opportunity for us to take a step back, reassess our approach, and reinvent the Ki Cafe experience you know and love,ā wrote the cafe in a previous Instagram post.

Regarding the reopening, Ki said it would just be the owners running things during these reduced hours. Customers can expect reduced food and drink offerings, but Ki Cafe did say it will be kicking things off with its Sakura menu (just in time for cherry blossom season).
Additionally, Ki shared that the space may look a bit different than customers are used to, with the cafe taking the opportunity while closed to tackle renovations. It also added that some of these renovations are still in progress during this soft reopening period.
“This isn’t our final form, but we’re excited to share our progress. Your support during this transition means everything ā and we promise it’ll only get better from here.”
