Earlier this month, the 2026 Chinese Restaurant Awards North America unveiled its Top 50 Honourees, a.k.a. the finalists for this year’s Elite 30 Canada Awards. And just like last year, Metro Vancouver has dominated the list, this time with a whopping 31 restaurants included.

The Chinese Restaurant Awards, which were founded in Vancouver in 2008, have become the definitive guide to Chinese cuisine. For years, a diverse panel of judges has anonymously visited restaurants of all sizes to seek out their favourite dishes, eateries, hole-in-the-wall establishments, and undiscovered talent.

“The Chinese Restaurant Awards have never been about ranking restaurants for the sake of ranking,” said Rae Kung, managing director of the Chinese Restaurant Awards. “Our goal is to help diners discover truly exceptional Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants, while recognizing the people whose passion and craftsmanship continue to elevate the cuisine around the world.”

Following the Top 50 Honourees, the Elite 30 Canada Awards will be unveiled at Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver on Sept. 23, 2026.

The Elite 30 Canada Awards are selected by the Canada Taste Advisors Panel, chaired by founding judge Lee Man. This year, the panel consists of 21 advisors, each of whom has enjoyed meals at restaurants that represent a variety of regional cuisines in cities across Canada.

“Our advisors have a great understanding of Chinese cuisine because they’ve spent a lifetime experiencing its flavours, the unique traditions, and regional nuances and complexities,” added Lee Man.

Advisors first evaluate the quality and execution of the food before considering consistency, hospitality, and the overall dining experience. This creates a guide that the Chinese Restaurant Awards says is “designed first and foremost for diners.”

Last year, Vancouver’s Dynasty Seafood Restaurant was named number one in Canada.
