Comedy queen Ali Wong pops by traditional Vancouver Chinatown spot
Iconic comedy queen Ali Wong recently wrapped up a multi-night run in Vancouver at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and it’s clear she knows the best spots to go and grab a bite in town.
Chinatown BBQ, located at 130 East Pender St., recently shared a post featuring Wong, and the restaurant did its research.
The spot, which is home to authentic traditional Chinese BBQ, shared a quote saying, “Life is too short to be wasting meals on bad food.”
That quote is actually from Wong’s 2019 book, Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, and Advice for Living Your Best Life.
The full quote adds, “And I would feel deep shame if I ever caught one of you eating at a gross Asian restaurant.”
The restaurant added, “It was such a delight to have you join us before your show in Vancouver. Never be a stranger at Chinatown BBQ!”

The Chinatown eatery has been around for almost 10 years now, which is quite an achievement in Vancouver. You can find dishes like BBQ Pork, Soy Sauce Chicken, and Hong Kong-style BBQ on its menu.
Many in the comments chimed in that the comedian has great taste, including someone who pointed out her order.
“She even tried the beef curry! Respect for having great taste.”
Speaking of beef.
Wong is known for her hilarious Netflix comedy specials, as well as the hit 2023 Netflix series Beef, in which she shared the screen with Steven Yeun. The show has had two seasons so far, with no news yet on a third.
She was also the executive producer for the A24 show.
Randall Park, one of Wong’s previous creative collaborators, was also in town recently, and he had nothing but good things to say about Vancouver.
