Best new restaurants in Edmonton you have to check out soon

Jun 21 2022, 7:59 pm

This is a great city for dining, with many incredible dishes and items you need to try at least once, and the past 30 days saw the opening of many great new restaurants in Edmonton.

The hard part is knowing which places are worthwhile, especially with so many wonderful restaurants already established throughout the city.

Lucky for you, we’ve tried them to take the risk out of your next dining experience.

These are the recently opened new restaurants in Edmonton that you must try, from an ice cream shop to a birria-style taco place and even a Japanese street food truck.

Sammies by Sodo is a brand new sandwich concept from the team behind the popular Sodo Bar that just launched in Edmonton.

Available for pick up and delivery, the menu at Sammies by Sodo has eight unique sandwiches, salads, sides, drinks, and more.

If you’re looking for Italian-deli style on the spicy side, go with the Papi. That one comes topped with mortadella, hot capicola, chorizo, manchego, lettuce, tomato, pickles, a dijon-mayo, and a veg sauce.

There’s something for everyone here.

Yanna’s Kitchen is a ghost kitchen and new to-go spot for some seriously delicious eats in YEG.

Yanna’s Kitchen uses the freshest ingredients to create vibrant Mexican flavours, wrapped up in corn tortillas and ready to dip in savoury beef broth.

Birria-style is typically slow-stewing beef in a delicious blend of spices and then using that beef and the leftover juices as a dipping broth. It’s like a beef dip but for tacos!

Yanna’s Kitchen has tons of birria options, from tacos to burritos and even fries.

Gigi’s Ice Cream

This is an interesting new ice cream concept with a twist. It’s in Spruce Grove, but we feel it’s worth including.

Inspired by cheesecake, Gigi’s is the classic walk-up window style of service that makes the entire experience feels nostalgic.

There are three of these cheesecake-inspired ice creams – Turtle, white chocolate raspberry, and strawberry cheesecake are the varieties you have to go for when you try this place out.

Just think of cheesecake’s cheesy, decadent flavour and texture and combine that with cold and fluffy ice cream.

Takopo

Takopo is a trendy Japanese street food spot that YEG already loves. It’s the new truck that just launched that has many people excited.

This place specializes in serving takoyaki, one of Japan’s most popular foods, a deep-fried snack in the shape of a ball.

The takoyaki here is innovative, with fresh ingredients, interesting proteins, and a concoction of sauces featuring many different Asian flavours.

Sure, it’s a truck, but we still feel it’s one of the most incredible new restaurants in Edmonton.
