We all know just how fickle the restaurant industry is, and in Calgary, we’ve seen a fair few shocking closures over the last couple of months.

From a longstanding sports bar to one of the city’s most beloved wine bars, here are some of the biggest restaurant closures in Calgary.

Lure Lounge

In an Instagram post, Lure Lounge & Dancehall, a spot known for cocktails and shisha, shared that it would be closing after eight years.

ā€œWe want to thank all of our loyal guests, friends, and regulars who made this place what it is. Your energy, your presence, and your support meant everything to us,ā€ it said.

Lounge Eighteen shared that it would be closing to the public after ā€œ10 amazing yearsā€ at its location at 1005 17th Ave. SW.

Home and Away

Home and AwayĀ has revealed it will be closing its Calgary location at 1207 1st St. SW on April 5. The bar didn’t give a reason behind the closure.

First opening on 17th Avenue,Ā Home and AwayĀ closed its OG location back in 2019 after almost four years in operation. However, it reopened later that year in its Victoria Park spot, where it remained for almost seven years.

SaVeg Cafe

SaVeg Cafe, a plant-based Korean-fusion cafe, shared that it will be officially winding down service at its location at The Academy at 637 11th Ave. SW on April 26.

SaVeg was brought to life by mother-daughter duo, Vera (Mama Lee) and Rose, and first opened to the public in 2018. Since then, the spot has become known and loved for its plant-based takes on dishes such as bulgogi, bibimbap, Korean-style curry, and its famous banana bread.

Frenchie by UNA, the wine bar concept tucked behind UNA’s 17th Avenue outpost, revealed in March that it has now closed to the public.

ā€œAfter many good times, many great glasses of wine, and more plates of cheese than we could ever count, Frenchie is now closed,ā€ the Frenchie team shared in an Instagram post.

Closing soon

Murrieta’s – Calgary

Last year, Ron Salverda, president and CEO at C.A. Restaurant Enterprises, told Dished that, after a phenomenal 25 years in the space,Ā Murrieta’s would be closing in April 2026.

However, in a recent Instagram post, Murrieta’s shared the joyous news that it would be hanging around for a little bit longer, with its new closing date slated for Aug. 1, 2026.
