Long-standing Calgary restaurant to close after 25 years

It’s the end of an era for a long-standing Calgary restaurant, but the dawn of an exciting new one.
Murrieta’s will be closing its downtown Calgary location at 808 1st St. SW next year, after 25 years in the space.
Ron Salverda, president and CEO at C.A. Restaurant Enterprises, told Dished that the reason behind the closure was financial after not being able to secure a “fair and equitable” lease.
Having first opened its doors in 2001, Murrieta’s is known for its extensive menu, ranging from pizza and pasta to fresh seafood, Alberta beef, and more.
The outpost will be closing its doors in April 2026, so there’s still plenty of time to say goodbye to the iconic space. Rest assured, Murrieta’s Canmore location will be sticking around.

However, Salverda added that the team is searching for a new downtown location for Murrieta’s, so watch this space.
“The downtown location is such a unique spot, just because of the history of that building […] We want an A-location for it,” he added.
In the meantime, Salverda teased that a new project is in the works, just a few steps away from the current Murrieta’s location at the Edison building, with the new restaurant concept slated to open in June 2026.
“We’re very excited but very sad at the same time,” Salverda said.
