West End Butcher

West End Butcher and Deli is owned by life and business partners Ben Allen and Jesse Samuels. The venture is inspired by Samuels family history in Montreal and Allen’s years of experience in the butchery industry.
The fresh meats available are all sourced from B.C. farms, and many of the dry goods are made by other small business owners in Vancouver.
As for the deli portion, you can expect to find sandwiches like The Beef, which is topped with pastrami, beef salami, house-made corned beef, Swiss, sauerkraut, pickles, and house-made Russian dressing, and The Pork, which is their take on a Philly pork sandwich with salsa verde, house roast pork, blanched rapini, and roasted red peppers.
“The idea is to keep it local and sustainable with nose-to-tail butchery. We’re very community-oriented, and we love to feed people, so whether you’re looking for the everyday cuts or something unusual, we’ll do our best to make sure you get it,” said Samuels.

A new cafe is opening in Kitsilano, but it might not be where you’d expect.
Vine Coffee Roasters softly opened on Sept. 21 inside Artesano Nails, meaning you can get caffeinated and get a fresh set of nails all in one place.
“We’re passionate about two things: having good coffee for ourselves and sharing good coffee with others. We believe a cup of good coffee or a fun and delicious drink can make your day a little more delightful and a little brighter,” wrote the cafe on Instagram.

Helios is brought to us by Jennifer Sun-Young Lee, a Culinary Institute of America alum who has experience working at institutions like the iconic three-Michelin-starred Le Bernardin in New York, as well as Patisserie Sebastien Gaudard in Paris and Patrice Patissier in Montreal.
“HELIOS has the meaning of ‘Sun’ from Greek mythology, referring to my Korean name ‘Sun-Young’. Most people love Sun-Young more than Jennifer, as it has nice meanings in English. I have been wishing for my shop to have bright, warm and positive vibes like ‘Sun’. While I was looking for a good name related to ‘Sun’, I found the word ‘HELIOS = SUN’ and decided to give it to my dream shop,” wrote Lee on Instagram.

The team behind Bovine Rice Bowls is debuting a new slider concept inside Bentall Centre called Four Bite Burger, and it’s officially opening tomorrow.
“We want to cook the food we love to eat,” said Jeremy Lau and Peter Yau, founders of Bovine Rice Bowls and Four Bite Burger.
“Everyone loves a good burger, and we are no exception. In our city, you can get everything from an egg or avocado topping to a microgreen salad on your beef. There’s room for those things, but sometimes you just want a classic burger, and we felt like there was a gap between fancy and basic. Four Bite Burger fills that gap with a menu built on simplicity: delicious bite-sized burgers made with good ingredients, executed with chef-driven technique.”
At the heart of the menu are, of course, the hand-crafted sliders, available in packs of two, three, or four. Packs are also served alongside seasoned curly fries.

Mandy’s Gourmet Salads
Ever since it debuted in Montreal over 20 years ago, Mandy’s Gourmet Salads has taken salad lovers by storm. Now, the cult-favourite salad chain has opened its first-ever West Coast location in Kitsilano this month.
The new location is designed as an express-format spot with a 16-seat outdoor patio. Here, folks will find the full Mandy’s menu complete with its signature salads, dressings, smoothies, bowls, and more.
There is even a Kits-exclusive salad only available at this location, titled the Salmon by the Sea. This salad will feature smoked salmon, avocado, French beans, purple cabbage, quinoa, and a tempura sesame crunch, all tossed in a lemon dill dressing.
