3 of Vancouver's outdoor pools open this May

With sunny skies and temperatures pushing 27°C inland, it looks like Vancouver’s spring and summer weather could be in full swing.

And just in the nick of time, three of Vancouver’s outdoor pools are set to open for next weekend.

The New Brighton and Second Beach pool are scheduled to open on Saturday, May 18 — just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend.

Both pools are heated, full-sized outdoor swimming pools in the Sunrise and Stanley Park neighbourhood. They’ll remain open from then until mid-September.

The Kitsilano pool, Vancouver’s only outdoor saltwater pool, will also open on Saturday, May 18. The pool is just one year out of a $3.3 million renovation that took place in 2017.

Some of the much-needed upgrades made to the facility included replacing gas-powered pumps with electric pumps to replenish seawater and dewater the pool, removing and replacing the pool basin membrane, and repairing the pool deck structure.

All pools will be open seven days a week, between 11:30 am and 8:30 pm from Monday to Friday. On weekends, the New Brighton pool and Second Beach pool will be open from 10 am to 8:30 pm; the Kitsilano pool will be open from 9 am to 8:30 am.

Hours of operation will be extended come Monday, June 10.

Drop-in fees for the pool start at $6.
