Another Vancouver restaurant to close due to Broadway subway project construction

The Vancouver restaurant industry can be fickle, and we’ve unfortunately lost another fan-favourite restaurant.
The Greek broke the news that it will be closing the doors to its Broadway location, citing construction for the Broadway subway project as the reason for the closure.
“With construction delays and ongoing disruptions, it’s become impossible for us to keep this location going until the SkyTrain is completed in 2027,” wrote the restaurant.

The Greek, which was founded in 1984, currently operates locations in Yaletown and Gastown, as well as its other restaurant, Anatoli Souvlaki, in North Vancouver. Its Broadway location opened near the end of 2023, serving the brand’s signature Greek dishes, including calamari, souvlaki, lamb yevetsi, and more.
“This isn’t the ending we hoped for, but the memories made here in such a short time mean the world to us. To everyone who came through our doors, thank you. Your support, your celebrations, and your love for Greek food and culture have kept our family going,” added the restaurant.
The Greek Broadway will close its doors on Sept. 16. Those looking for their Greek food fix can still visit its other locations throughout Metro Vancouver.

The Greek is not the only restaurant to have closed due to ongoing construction. Heritage Asian Eatery, which operated in the same area as The Greek Broadway, also cited construction as the reason for its closure.
Additionally, Ramen One, the ramen restaurant with a focus on solo dining and located just steps from Broadway-City Hall Station, also closed its doors. However, it did not provide a reason for its closure.
When construction initially began in 2021, it was anticipated that the new SkyTrain would be ready for its first passengers by late 2025. Since then, the project’s completion was delayed until early 2026, and then delayed again until 2027.
