Top Vancouver chefs unite for Lapu Lapu tragedy fundraiser

After the tragic event that took the lives of 11 people and injured dozens more at the Lapu Lapu festival on April 26, some of Vancouver’s top chefs are coming together for a fundraising event to support the victims and their families.
Organized by Gourmet Warehouse owner Caren McSherry, the event will have 11 of Vancouver’s top chefs donate their time and talent to support the Filipino community. Chefs include:
- Angus An — Maenam and Fat Mao Noodles
- Ned Bell — Ocean Wise Seafood
- Christophe Bonzon — Chez Christophe
- Andrea Carlson — Burdock & Co
- Alex Chen — Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar and Wild Blue Restaurant
- Rob Clark — CCO Organic Ocean Seafood
- Thomas Haas — Thomas Haas Fine Chocolates and Patisserie
- David Hawksworth — Nightingale and Hawksworth Restaurant
- Scott Jaeger — Culinary Consultant and formerly PearTree
- Frank Pabst — Blue Water Cafe
- Maj Yee — Goldilocks Bake Shop
“When we heard the terrible news, our first thoughts were, ‘how can we help?’” said McSherry. “I want to thank each of these chefs for immediately saying yes to doing this. Unfortunately, this weekend’s event serves as a difficult reminder of just how precious every day is and how we need more access for mental health supports and programs for those that need them.”
