New plant-based Mexican restaurant opening in Vancouver will be a space to celebrate queer joy

Plant-based options in Vancouver have been dwindling, with many plant-based restaurants closing their doors recently, like Lotus Seed Vegan, Heirloom, and The Arbor, to name just a few. However, a new restaurant offering tasty plant-based eats is gearing up to open in the city.
Located at 227 E Pender St., Vancouver, Gina’s will serve many plant-based Mexican dishes and cocktails. Menu items include Chips Mexicana (choice of plain chips, Tostitos, or Takis with lime juice, Valentina sauce, Maggi sauce, and Worcestershire sauce), Vegan Tinga Tacos (soft corn tortillas with carrots and onions stewed in a chipotle and tomato sauce), and Aguachile (mushrooms, cucumber, and onion cured in a sauce made with lime juice, serrano pepper, and cilantro).
But Gina’s isn’t just about delicious plant-based eats; it also advertises itself as a space “for queers by queers.”

“We’re SO excited to open our doors and bring you a space that honours Latinx culture and centers women, non binary and trans folks. A space where we can celebrate queer joy!!!” said the restaurant on its Instagram.
