Vancouver restaurant named one of the best new spots in Canada

We’re right in the thick of it when it comes to restaurant awards, and plenty of Vancouver spots are finally getting the recognition that we think they deserve. And now another restaurant is joining the list of award-winning eateries.
Elem was named one of the best new restaurants in Canada this year, landing itself 10th on the list.
Located at 2110 Main St., Vancouver, the restaurant was brought to us by Chef Vish Mayekar, formerly of La Tana, Pepino’s, and Elio Volpe, alongside Hassib Sarwari and Winnie Sun of the celebrated modern Afghan restaurant Zarak.
Described as Chef Mayekar’s “brainchild,” Elem is a destination inspired by the four elements.

Regarding food, the menu is largely inspired by Mayekar’s travels and features seafood, local produce, and bold flavours (think slow-cooked dishes inspired by Indian culinary practices). It also boasts a killer cocktail menu courtesy of Sun.
While Elem is the only Vancouver restaurant on the list, it joins the like of other Canadian spots like Le Violon in Montreal Que., which was number 1 on the list, LSL in Toronto, Ont., which was number 2, and DOPO in Calgary, Alta., which was number 4.
Last year, Victoria restaurant Café Malabar took the coveted number one spot, and Magari By Oca landed at number 10.
