Ford to make announcement as Ontario's second COVID-19 wave continues

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by top health officials to make an announcement on Wednesday, as the province continues its second COVID-19 wave.

They will both be joined by Merrilee Fullterton, Minister of Long-Term Care, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health.

According to the province, there are currently 108 long-term care homes that have an active COVID-19 outbreak in Ontario, with 700 positive cases amongst residents and 524 amongst staff.

On Tuesday, Ford said Education Minister Stephen Lecce will provide an update soon on whether or not schools will have a prolonged winter break due to the rise in cases.

Cases have been consistently above 1,000 for the last 12 days with Tuesday’s 1,249Monday’s 1,487Sunday’s 1,248Saturday’s 1,581 (the highest single-day number since the pandemic began), Friday’s 1,396Thursday’s 1,575Wednesday’s 1,426Tuesday’s 1,388, Monday’s 1,242, Sunday’s 1,328, and Saturday’s 1,132.

The press briefing will take place at 1 pm from Queens Park.
